Wattley qualifies for second event in IC4A/ECAC Championships

Brittany Wattley ran 24.69 in the 400 to finish 3rd at the Spire Collegiate Invitational. She also ran 3rd in the 60m with a time of 7.65 seconds

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The territory’s top athletes continued their indoor season of improvements and consistency over the weekend including Brittany Wattley who finished 3rd overall in the 200m at the Spire Collegiate Invitational in Ohio over the weekend.

Morgan State Jr. Wattley joined Karene King, Chantel Malone, Ashley Kelly and Tahesia Harrigan-Scott as female athletes running the 200m around the 24 seconds range indoors after running 24.69 seconds.

The time qualified her for the IC4A/ECAC Championships in a second event. Wattley was also third in the 60m dash in 7.65 seconds.

Karene King was second in the Huskies Invitational 200m in 24.50 seconds. She won her 60m heat in 7.72 to place eight overall taking here heat in 7.70. Teammate Dominique Maloney ran 25.28 for fifth overall after a first place finish in her heat. Her 400m time of 57.51 seconds after winning her section saw her standing in sixth place overall.

Wattley joined Karene King, Chantel Malone, Ashley Kelly and Tahesia Harrigan-Scott as female athletes running the 200m around the 24 seconds range indoors after running 24.69 seconds.

Illinois Sr. Ashley Kelly made her 400m debut at the Mark Colligan Memorial Invitational in Nebraska, with a time of 55.05 seconds and finished second overall to one of her teammates.

In Texas, Chantel Malone won her heat and finished third overall in the Texas A&M Challenge Women’s Olympic Development 400m, with 54.39 seconds, improving on her 55.45 season debut.

Tahesia Harrigan-Scott, competing in New York, was fourth in the 50m sprint in 6.25 seconds. Harrigan-Scott, who will compete in Europe as she tunes up for the 15th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey – opened her season with a winning time of 6.76 over 55m in the Gator Invitational in Florida.

I am so proud of Brittany! Many a day I used to let her rest (read that sleep!) in my English Class, as I am sure her other teachers did, because we knew how hard she worked and how focussed she has always been on her athletic career, but not at the expense of her academics. We wish you all that is good!
