BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- Orissa Thomas of the Elmore Stoutt High School is the 2025 Secondary School Spelling Bee Champion.

Thomas emerged as the top speller when the Spelling Bee final was held at the New Testament Church of God International Worship Centre Activity Hall on June 2, 2025.

Joy Ogbonnaya of Ciboney Centre of Excellence secured second place while Donte Rogers of the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies was awarded third.  

This competition allowed for students to engage in friendly competition with their peers from schools across the Territory, while showcasing their skills in literacy through spelling and pronunciation.

The 2025 Inter-Secondary School Spelling Bee finals saw participation from various schools, including the Virgin Islands Institute of Technical Studies, Elmore Stoutt High School, Cedar International School, and Ciboney Centre of Excellence.

    Big up to all the spellers but especially Miss Thomas. Y'all see how two of the top 3 spots secured by public school students? Dem public schools and public school parents doing a lot right...don't mind the noise - Let's go RAMS!!!! #publicschoolsrock

      If publics schools had the ability to refuse students with behavioral challenges like the private schools do, the perception of them would be different. Imagine paying college tuition for a social experience and your child cannot compete territorialy, regionally or internationally.
