ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The British Virgin Islands Men’s National Football Team displayed resilience and heart in front of a passionate home crowd at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground on Saturday, June 8, 2025, falling 1–0 to regional giants Jamaica in their final Group E match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying campaign.

A spirited defensive performance anchored by goalkeeper Frankie Beckles, kept the visiting Reggae Boyz at bay for much of the match. Beckles made several crucial saves in the second half, earning the admiration of fans and coaches alike.

The only goal of the match came in the 17th minute, when Jamaica’s Warner Brown headed home a free kick delivered by Demarai Gray.

Despite Jamaica's overwhelming possession and attacking pressure, the BVI side stood firm and fought valiantly through all 90 minutes plus stoppage time.

The match marked a significant moment for the local football community, with fans turning out in strong numbers to support the team.

Bright future for VI football

The BVI Football Association (BVIFA) has extended sincere thanks to all supporters, partners, and volunteers who contributed to the matchday experience.

Though the VI finishes its qualifying campaign without a win, the Association said it sees clear signs of progress, especially from its youth core.

According to the BVIFA, the development pathway remains the priority, with more competitive fixtures and training camps on the horizon.
