BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- Opposition Members Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) and Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) have both said the chances of the Motion of No Confidence against Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) are slim.

The Opposition, under the leadership of Opposition Leader Myron V. Walwyn (R6), is once again bringing a motion of no confidence before the House of Assembly (HoA).

The motion is on the Order Paper for the Fifth Sitting of the Second Session of the Fifth HoA, which began on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. The motion cites over twenty areas where the Opposition feels the government, under Premier Wheatley’s leadership, has failed.

Speaking on NDP Radio on Monday, June 2, 2025, Hon Penn said the likelihood of the motion passing is “very unlikely”.

“The only purpose this tool could be used right now is to really emphasise and highlight that you have an opportunity in the House to debate on issues that people are faced with.”

Motion could be debated by the end of summer- Hon Penn

Hon Skelton (AL), who was Opposition Leader when the first motion of no confidence was to be brought before the HoA last year, said he feels the new motion may see the same fate as last year’s.

“The process was frustrated by the leader of government business, where he continues to add and add and add to the order paper…so it couldn’t go any further, and it had to be resubmitted, and I think that is what’s happening right now, it’s being resubmitted.”

He also said he believes the purpose of this motion of no confidence is to hold the government accountable.

Hon Skelton said, “I think it’s just to show the government of all the different issues the country is confronting, like…the road, the infrastructure, the healthcare system. I don’t think it is a matter of winning; it’s for us an Opposition for us to point out to the government and to tell them, listen, you have fallen short in all of these areas.”

Meanwhile, Hon Penn added, “I personally don’t see us getting to this vote of no confidence till after the summer, if history is any indication of the order paper that we have before us right now.”

Approach leaves something to be desired- Hon Penn

Hon Skelton also questioned the unity of the Opposition in bringing this motion to the House.

He said last year they were confident in the possibility of the motion receiving support from all Opposition members and at least one member from the government’s side.

Meanwhile, Hon Penn said, “The approach, that leaves something to be desired, I think we have to ensure, particularly if you’re dealing with something like this, the people have to be very much involved in the process and understand what you’re trying to achieve.”

He said that for an Opposition, it has to be the approach, but added, “Nonetheless, it is on the order paper, it will be debated, it will be debated vigorously, and we will go through the process when we do get to it.”

If you are serious and have the of corruption and a failing, reckless Government engage the Governor. Ask the Governor, the Governor has the power to sit down with the Premier and call a snap or early election..

Seems like we have two oppositions. There is the Vip blind government, the HM loyal Alliance opposition and then there is the two studage NDP opposition.

Since you realize that a motion chance of no confedence has a slim chance to pass against Premier Hon. Dr., Natalio Sajuande Wheatley, why go through an undecisive aimless motion for political exercise sake?
Isn't it better to state all your opposing points, and prepare your plans, and work wisely, certainly not split up as the opposition is now, for a better change of leadership next coming general elections?
Am I not making sense while you politicians continue fooling the majority of B.V.I voters, while you continue getting top $$$$$s, but insufficient progress seen, and meager $1.25 added to $6.00=$7.25, having waited eight plus years.
Basic need goods has risen many times since then many times, possible hundred of times since October 1st 2016 when the minimum wage pay was $4.00 an hour.

All political leaders should be ashamed , especially our current Premier, Hon. Dr. Natalio Sajuande Wheatley, and his cabinet team members.

Things now would have being better financially for the minimum wage workers, government employees, and others working money earners, if Hon. Ronnie Skelton held the Premier position. Not that he isn't greedy, as the others are, but things would have presently being better, in my honest opinion.

Where there is no God the Almighty Creator of the universe, the Holy One, there is no truth. Where there is truth, God is being honored, humans too, justice prevails over injustice among people, people of the B.V.I included.
