BVIAA took proactive steps ahead of Silver Airways shutdown- Kurt A.G. Menal

The airline’s move comes as it filed for bankruptcy in December 2024, to secure additional capital and for financial restructuring.
Silver Airways, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, provided a network of flights, particularly connecting Tortola to various Caribbean destinations and, at one point, to its San Juan hub.
The airline used to conduct two flights daily from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to the Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island.
BVIAA engaged airlines servicing the SJU-EIS route
Mr Kurt A.G. Menal, Managing Director of BVIAA, told our news centre today, June 11, 2025, that they have been closely monitoring the situation surrounding Silver Airways for several months.
The BVIAA, he said, has maintained open lines of communication with the airline during this period.
“We recognise the importance of reliable air service to the Territory, particularly along the San Juan (SJU) to Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS) route.”
In anticipation of potential disruptions, the BVIAA “proactively engaged” airlines currently servicing the San Juan to Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport route in discussions.
Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) confirmed these engagements to our news centre, which he said could “possibly augment” the service.
Mr Menal added, “As a result of these efforts, several carriers have already begun to address the increased demand resulting from Silver Airways' cessation of service.”
Airlines stepping up to assist are Cape Air and InterCaribbean Airways, Mr Menal confirmed.
“We remain committed to enhancing air service to the Virgin Islands by increasing route options and strengthening connectivity,” Menal added.

We can't blame thr government for this because it's every silver destination, St Thomas, PR, Dominica, U.S - whole ting shut down.
Intercaribbean is another story to tell. They got their own problems they can't get under control so let we wait and see if they will be more reliable because of the demand. I doubt it. Hooe Caribbean Airline step up to the plate and offer more frequent flights to PR instead of 2 days a week
