Junior Minister for Tourism and Culture, Hon Luce D. Hodge-Smith (R4) said it is unfortunate that there will be no Miss BVI 2025 Pageant
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- There will be no Miss BVI 2025 held during the 71st Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival.

This was “unfortunately, beyond, way, way, way beyond our control”, Junior Minister for Tourism and Culture, Hon Luce D. Hodge-Smith (R4), said on The Virgin Islands Voice last evening, June 11, 2025.

She explained the pageant was down to only two contestants from a full slate of four or five.

“It was simply impossible to have a pageant with two contestants. I must say the committee made special efforts to encourage other contestants to stay on board…and to even to solicit for other young ladies to come out and vie for the title, but unfortunately, time was of the essence.”

2024 1st Runner Up to be coronated Miss BVI 2025

In light of this development, Hon Hodge-Smith said an “executive decision” was made to coronate First Runner Up in the 2024 Miss BVI Pageant, Miss Donyelle D. Hodge, as Miss BVI 2025

“That is justified because we’ve done it before. I think we’ve seen some chatter that this is the first time it’s not the first time that we’ve actually coronated a Miss BVI; but we are justified in crowning her because she actually went through the pageant, she participated in all the categories and she was judged, so we’re comfortable enough to say we can crown her, coronate her as Miss BVI 2025.”

A coronation event will be held, with information to be shared with the public once finalised.

Not something we’re pleased with

Hon Hodge-Smith, Miss BVI 1981, expressed to the public that this is not something they are too happy about.

“It is not something that we are very pleased with, especially me and Hon Sharie, as former Miss BVIs…it is a part of our tradition, it is a highlight of our festival activities, and we are very disappointed as well to make this announcement…but it just didn’t work out.”

Despite this development, the Junior Minister said a “conscious effort” will be made to revitalise the Miss BVI Pageant ahead of the 2026 festival.

“As a matter of fact, we will be talking about efforts to revitalise the entire festival activities going forward.”

The outgoing queen is Ms Adacia R. Adonis.

This been happening from the 70’s. They give the judges a job to do, the judges do their job and the committee changes the decision. That is the reason the girls rarely get any face time at international competitions. Go back to the old days and let them sell tickets; whoever sells the most wins. But I a sure the committee will find a way to corrupt that too.

This is a bloody shame. Incompetence at it's highest level in this place. Our culture going down the drain. I now see all 13 must go.

Probably time to end the objectification of women and pretending we are judging intelligence. Will miss the bit where they parade around in swim suits though. It's rigged????!!!

While I do not like this decision, I understand it and also look at it as a glass half full situation. At least the government does not have to put valuable resources into the pageant and horse racing. Use the funds where the impact will be positively felt. Like purchasing and installing a/c units and water coolers for some of the public schools.

Unfortunately people don’t understand the consequences of their actions. The girls go in extreme expense only to either be cheated by conflicted judges and committee members or for salty committee leaders to change scores. A setta ugly mongonies running show they could never win in their prime and using positions to spite people of natural physical beauty and beautiful spirits.
    People are indeed watching.

This will not happen if you start the planning much earlier. Start in September 2025 for July/August 2026. Enough time to iron out challenges.

BVI people just love drama! The same people upset about money spent on Kartel show and other parties are now pretending to be upset because there will be ni Ms BVI Show. If the announcement was that they woulf be hosting the biggest ever Ms BVI show at the cost of $1mil then the uproar would be about wasting money on a pageant. Now they will save money by not having one and here comes the fake outrage!

Was the best to ever do it. Show always started exactly on time. Vip was VIP, as the show done she had other girls already sourced. How can they rehire a failed attempt from last year. Makes no sense, our culture is not a toy. Instead of hiring who can do the job they will hire friends and family

Those evil people had that planned to give that girl the crown. 4 ladies signed up and a show can’t be held in some form? The information been circulating in the public domain that she will be crowned. They are all friends in that tourist board. From the minute she didn’t win the show last year was a problem. The truth is coming hold on to you all seats. It’s a dog eat dog world. #thatcrownistainted, injustice must stop, good luck

Trust none of them committee member from top go down.

As long as this lady is involved… she holds the record for being late. The one person who would set a deadline herself and still miss it. She is slow!
