ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Despite the onslaught of Hurricane Earl, the majority of the Digicel network is up and delivering normal service; and has been doing so throughout the passage of the storm.

In a release from the telecommunications service provider, the company said it has more sites in service than any other network provider in the BVI.

“Preparation is key this hurricane season. Since June, Digicel has been planning extensively to ensure that customers can stay in contact with friends and family during the hurricane season. Keeping our customers connected is of paramount importance,” said Alan Bates, Country Manager of Digicel BVI.

Although there was some power loss during the hurricane, Digicel installed generators and fuel emergency reserves at all of its cell sites to continue to keep all these sites running at their maximum capacity.

“We are however aware of isolated areas where customers may be experiencing intermittent service issues. These are due to poor visibility between cell sites due to the adverse weather conditions, but this will be resolved as weather conditions improve,” Bates continued.

Digicel Customer Care and Technical teams have been working around the clock to ensure that customers get the help and information they need, with customer care remaining open 24 hours a day. The Digicel store in Road Town is also open for customers.

With Tropical Storm Fiona also set to reach BVI over the coming days, Digicel – in association with the Department of Disaster Management – will continue to update customers on its projected path via SMS.
