ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is offering a reward of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) each for information leading to the successful capture and arrest of two escaped fugitives, Jose Almestica and John M. Burgos, both residents of the United States Virgin Islands.

The two men unlawfully escaped from His Majesty’s Prison, Balsam Ghut, Tortola, on October 25, 2025, and have since evaded law enforcement.

The RVIPF, in a press release today, June 3, 2026, urged anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of these fugitives to come forward. Persons can contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9512 or provide information anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS) or 284-800 8477 from overseas.

'Armed & extremely dangerous'

Both men are considered armed and extremely dangerous. Members of the public are strongly advised not to approach either individual under any circumstances.

At the time of their escape, Almestica was serving a sentence of six (6) years for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. He had also been found guilty by a nine-member jury in October 2025 for four (4) counts of Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm, one (1) count of Possession of a Prohibited Firearm, three (3) counts of Unlawful Possession of Explosives and two (2) counts of Possession of a Controlled Drug with Intent to Supply. He was awaiting sentencing for these offences.

Additionally, Almestica is awaiting trial in relation to the 2021 murder of Deverson Williams at Fish Bay, Tortola. He is further wanted by authorities in the United States Virgin Islands for serious offences, including First-degree Murder, Second-degree Murder, and Assault.

Burgos was remanded to His Majesty’s Prison, Balsam Ghut, on charges relating to firearms, ammunition, and drug possession.

He is also wanted for questioning by the United States Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) in connection with a 2023 murder investigation.

"The safety of our communities remains a top priority. As long as these fugitives remain at large, there is an ongoing risk to public safety. Even the smallest piece of information could prove critical in locating and apprehending these individuals," the RVIPF stated.

I cannot believe these 2 have not been caught yet. My question is, how did they escape so easily? I remember well when they escaped, and I was keeping an eye out, hoping I would see them and call it in. They are bad people.

why took so long to do this? Maybe just making sure they were far, far away so there will be no need to pay the reward fee?

        Truth!!!
Reason why we have imported more Jamdowns and their native policemen..BVI is determined and it is nesessary to have them in high numbers and their home folks as major presence in these VI... None other than the jamdowns and their local conspirators perpetuate cime more than this combination.
Karma will arrive in these VI,for certain. Get ready, stay ready. Brent was here did his deeds and the VI gates opened for him coming and going within a few days allowing him to continue his murderous sojourn as reported in the Trini news. No shame in our game at all.

I sure don’t want u all reward for information on those 2 Criminals.
U all look for them u all selves.
A number of Police Officers are associated with drug men and also gun men.
If someone assists them with information on the whereabouts of them Criminals, the same Officers are the same ones who will Rat Out the person who receives the cheque and then u know what will happen?
The Criminals will send a HIT out on the person from behind bars and the reward wouldn’t be absolutely no use to them. Nearer my God to Thee.

But wait. What are the facts surrounding this case? What happen to the investigation that was supposed to be carried out by a select group of people? The FOCUS should be what took place at Balsam Ghut that evening. These pertinent questions must be asked:
    1. How did they escape in the first place?
    2. Where they held in separate cells?
    3. At what time were they discovered missing?
    4. Are there any witnesses (other inmates) who may have seen what took place?

Royal Virgin Islands Police Force please look WITHIN the Prison and the RVIPF before you come to the public. The public were fast asleep that night and know nothing.
