THE SETTLEMENT, Anegada, VI- The Premier of the Virgin Islands, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), has expressed commitment to having the longstanding Anegada lands issues, dating back to 1885, be settled as quickly as possible.

During a meeting on constitutional reform held at Emile Dunlop Community Centre in Anegada on Sunday, June 7, 2026, residents expressed concerns about longstanding land issues. One resident emphasised that families are dying while waiting for a resolution on these land matters.

Premier Wheatley acknowledged the issue and committed to reviewing it promptly. However, he believes that the Crown Lands Management Act is the legislation governing these matters.

Committed to getting this issue resolved

“As it pertains to the claims, I may have to look at that a little bit more closely to understand about the claims a little better. I believe the Crown Lands Management Act does speak to ancestral lands,” he said.

The Premier emphasised the importance of presenting these claims to the Crown Lands Management Board, adding that it is the responsibility of the Crown Lands Management Board to resolve these claims.

“Those persons who've made applications for either residential or commercial lands to have those settled as quickly as possible,” he stated.

He further remarked,” I wouldn't want us to delay that in examining these claims from, as you said, from 1885, because, let's say, for instance, it gets very complicated. I wouldn't want you to delay getting that Crown land transferred as quickly as possible, but once those claims are presented, I'm sure the Deputy Premier would engage with the board.”

The Premier expressed his willingness to participate in discussions regarding this issue so that he can fully understand the claims and the approach necessary for their resolution.

I was here saying the same thing to myself...Looks like a little trailer park. It is at the perfect stage at this point in time to develop the island in a modern and organized way. Sadly, it seems like we don't know how...

but most of the claims dont even come from Anegadians its Americans and most don't even live here but only visit once every 2 years to keep an AMERICAN in charge of the Land committiee , FACTS, so when the Premier looks he needs to look who actually lives here and give those people thier lands

So if I have was born here and live overseas you mean I can't secure my retirement for when I return? How is it that you get to determine that? And what is wrong with having an AMERICAN in charge of the Committee as long as he/she has BVI and/or UK citizenship? Some of you complain about every single thing. You are accusing people of what you see in yourself. As long as you QUALIFY, it if FAIR to give the people their lands, including you.

Tell them again! The reality is, those same Americans they casting down is the ones who actually OWN Anegada Land and not asking the government for a piece of land! Should we talk about that?

How much of you begging government to give you a pice of land to build a house? How much of you actually own walls on Anegada? My Grandmother is a Wheatley and she have plenty walls and waiting on her title for years!

Stop hating on people because they could afford to relocate their family and you couldn't! We all supposed to be one people!

Whomever you are, you need to contact the Chairman. He is very aware of the owners to walls on Anegada.

Your statement is so misleading. You know every person who claims land has one parent or grand paprent that was born on Anegada . Why should your claim have more merit than mine?

It has taken almost my entire lifetime to even get this far. I don't think I will live long enough to see this settled. We are working slower than snails here. I hope my children, grands, and great grands live to see this actually come to fruition.

That land issue should have been addressed and fixed since the Positive Action Movement. But no, land grabbers are at the from fronting and stalling for the least of Anegada people...

How could you have your brother at UN fighting for de-colonization and you sitting on Anegada Land situation that has been ongoing since 1885. Make it make sense.

So let me get this straight, someone born in the Virgin Islands to foreign parents is still a foreigner but someone born outside of the Virgin Islands to Virgin Islands parents is also a foreigner??
