ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Premier of the Virgin Islands, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), has expressed deep sadness over the passing of Mr Collingston George, whom he regarded as a distinguished leader in Virgin Islands business and a dedicated Virgin Islander who contributed immensely to the country.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Premier Wheatley highlighted Mr George's role as Chairman of the Board of Prospect Reef Management Company, where he brought vision, integrity, and commitment to revitalising one of the Territory's premier hospitality and business landmarks.

The Premier noted that Mr George's leadership extended far beyond the boardroom. "He was a mentor, an advocate for local enterprises, and a quiet force driving the growth of commerce in the Virgin Islands."

As the Minister responsible for agriculture, Premier Wheatley acknowledged Mr George as a prolific farmer. He stated, “I knew him as a prolific farmer. His agricultural achievements came to maturity at a time when the world was most concerned about food security, and he did his part for the Virgin Islands. We thank him for putting his hand to the plow and reaping so that our nation could be fed.”

VI lost a builder

The Premier extended heartfelt condolences to Mr George's wife and children on behalf of the Government and the people of the Virgin Islands. “We recognise your loss, and we share in your grief. I am especially mindful of Lizette George, who serves within one of the Ministries under my portfolio. Please know that your family’s contribution to public service, alongside Mr George’s legacy in business, is deeply valued by this administration and by the Territory we serve.”

The Premier added, “The Virgin Islands has lost a builder, but his impact in business, in community, in agriculture, and in family will endure. May he rest in peace, and may his memory inspire continued dedication to the development of our beloved Virgin Islands.”
