Who will be softball’s King or Queen of the mound?
Pythons Jelissa Potter is in the running to be Favourite 2011 Softball Pitcher.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The rains sweeping the Territory may have curtailed play on the field, but off it the action is definitely hotting up as players and fans alike are letting their fingers do the talking. League sponsors, Lime, have set up a “Text to Win competition to see who will be the Favourite Pitcher and Favourite Team of 2011.
Currently sitting in first place is Allen “Woodrow” Smith of the East Invaders. Smith is 3-1 on the season and struck out 4 against the table topping Blue Wings. Also in contention are the Hurricanes pairing of Neville “Sheep” Smith and Roy “Panhandle” Hill. “Sheep” retired at the end of 2010, but has made a successful comeback leading the Hurricanes to joint second in the standings.
He took his season record to 3-1 with the recent win over the East Invaders. Of the Men, Raymond “ Mahasa” Mercer has the best record, 4-1 and had a season high 7 Strikes in the Blue Wings win over the East Invaders.
On the list of Ladies, there is no doubting the star quality of Jelissa “Shelley” Potter. She combines pitching with catching and hitting home runs for the unbeaten Pythons team and has a 6-0 record on the season, including 6 strike outs against the Hawks in the last game. Elita Parker also makes the list of contenders. Her loss in the game against the Pythons took her to 2-3 this year. The Crushers Felecia “Big Train” Wattley, along with the Braves’ Adina “Sugar Bowl” Nibbs round of the contenders. Nibbs is 3-0 on the season.

Darier Malones stellar season so far puts her a favourite to pick up the Lime Educational Scholarship to be announced at the 2011 Annual Softball Dinner in November.
There is no surprise that the Pythons are leading the field, both in the standings and in the Favourite Team of 2011 competition. They are unbeaten, always excite the crowds with the energetic, dynamic action packed performances and looked very sharp in the black uniforms!
Coach Terry Chinnery does a fantastic job of keeping all their diverse characters in check and has instilled in them all a never say die attitude.
The Blue Wings are also having a fantastic season, leading the more fancied Hurricanes and Invaders in the men’s standing.

Lime isn’t stopping at the text to win competition though. They have also announced an Educational Scholarship that will be awarded to the leading female player who is still attending High School. Performance on the field will not be the sole criteria for the winner though, as Academic Achievements will also be taken into consideration.
Darier Malone must be considered a front runner to be named the winner, but strong contenders also include her team mates Karen Gonzalez and Kia Barry. However also into the mix goes Shaika Jeffers who plays for the ESHS Rams as well as Shaky Collins and Annesha Graham.
The Award winner will be announced at Softball’s Annual Dinner in November.
