ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- In what was acknowledged as a real issue affecting the progress of Virgin Islanders and ultimately the Territory, callers to the radio programme “Speak out BVI” called for Virgin Islanders to stop fighting among themselves and work for the good of the territory.

One caller said that while VIslanders were busy fighting among themselves, their country was heading into trouble. He called for VIslanders to instead work together and pay attention to what was happening in their country.

The caller’s opinion was also acknowledged by programme host Douglas Wheatley when the programme was aired last week.

Meanwhile, the caller also said that while he had some problems with Ocean Conversion, he had more of a problem with another company coming into the island to execute works and provide a service that could be done by a local company.

Another caller also agreed that there was too much fighting among VIslanders and that it was only serving a negative purpose.

There have been calls on numerous fronts for Virgin Islanders to work together for the betterment of the Territory and concerns have been raised of VIslanders being marginalized especially in the job market with expatriates being given priority over them.

Best advice yet!! Too much division for such a small community! We need to first of all start looking at business opportunities and then starting investment clubs (with proper paperwork for transparency) and get this thing going. Fighting and complaining won’t get us anywhere, we need to work together!!!!! Look at how the expats are doing well in our country, I welcome all of them who are positive and contribute to our economy etc. But we should also look at how they unite, invest, pool funds, knowledge/expertise etc. instead of fighting down eachother. That’s the way to success, WE CAN DO IT!!!

  2. sad says:

    That’s the truth!!!!

  3. Brad Boynes says:

Speak truth to justice reardless of who it is for or against.

  4. x says:

what about thoes who fighting aginst us…

    • Eyes On The Prize says:

Who are the “us” you are talking about? You are one of those fools who prefer to spend time talking about people from elsewhere fighting against us. Do you really know what it means to fight against someone? Of all the comments you read about us pulling together you decided to go in another realm. Didn’t you hear or read somewhere that “UNITY IS STRENGTH?” The real truth is, if we pull together as a people there is no chance of anyone fighting against us, let alone succeeding. Learn to make constructive criticisms and add value to the discussions. Acting like a “hot air balloon” won’t help us. Put on your thinking cap if you have one. People like you seem to have an opinion on everything yet really have nothing to say. When you are informed then your opinion will matter, otherwise you are just an ignoramus.

      • Real Talk says:

Thank you for fixing this simpleton and saving me the time from having to do it. How can anybody fight unity? I assume the fool is referring to expats who come here and only take advantage of what they see as a divided and bitter people, can you blame them? If I could go to another country and benefit economically and otherwise from the ignorance, bitterness, envy and jealousy amongst the natives, I would do the same..that’s life and that’s REAL! So, the more we stick together the less chance that ‘they’ can fight us. Cut the whining and victim mentality, we are to be blamed for our situation and by ‘we’ I mean us and the people WE elect!!

Sadly, some folks are just so simple, abc, 123, they can’t see pass a bush contract, white envelope, wall or stove…

  5. Flat Rock says:

You shoulld visit Anegada. There is the most infighting going on.The little man cannot survive ,as all of the government contract work is given to those that have already made it financially in Life, and the poorer ones are being kept down. And to put insult to injury, the construction work is being given to expats. When a local go to try to get work they are told there is none ,but a week later you can see folks from Santo Domingo doing the same work that the local man tried to get.

    • Real Talk says:

Look at Sea Cows Bay too! Over 10 contracts issued to ‘local’ contractors but when you drive pass is ONE GUYANESE man running the show and calling shots on the site. Now, I have no problem with the guy earning his cake and taking advantage of idiotic, short sighted, foolish locals. But what makes me laugh is the locals doing this nonsense and will still turn around and ball long eye water about who come here and doing better than us. Can’t we see this practice is setting us up for failure?

If a private company/individual passes by and see the quality of work and are impressed, you think they coming looking for the local contractor who on the side in an airconditioned vehicle ‘acting’ like they’re busy? Or it’s the workman themselves will get the opportunities? We are digging our own graves while complaining that ‘others’ killing us. Do the math when we get petty contracts and give ALL THE WORK to outsiders to do, you think we’re gaining? I have no issue with expats at all, I welcome them, they helped us to build this country! But don’t try to use the people and then when the filth hit the fan talk foolishness about being minority in your country. This lazy, short sighted attitude will come back to bite us! While these people building homes and businesses here and in their homeland, all we will have is a few gas guzzling SUVs and a maroon passport that will be no use because all the money will be dried up, no more lucrative petty contracts.

As for Anegada, Pops have no call going from all the way CGBay in the 2nd District and running the show in the 9th! It’s absolutely ridiculous!!!

      • Mary J says:

Back the hell off Sea Cows bay…we putting back Fraser like it or not you must live with it!!!

      • Flat Rock says:

HMM it seems that you know alot that is happening on Anegada. There are Qualified persons on Anegada who can do the same job as the FAT MAN from CGB.I wonder what would be said if someone from any other District went to CGB to oversee their projects?

  6. selfish says:

We people here worry to much about self and how much money we can make. That is why you see we are taking the back seat in jobs, property and everything else, if you don’t believe me look up on the hills going on the west side and the back side of the island, go at Village Cay on a Friday, we are loosing our strong hold of this country to much fight amongst ourselves and our own back yard to not being monitored.

    • NDP Attack DOg says:

I wish I could shake your hand, you know what’s going on!!! Not to mention fellow locals who want to keep others ignorant and foolish so only they themselves can enjoy a piece of the BVI pie. Promoting ignorance so that him alone can ‘eat’……Everything is about ‘self’ for these people, hardly anybody putting the country first! They will sell the lamps on the BVI flag speeding for $1000 each without blinking or thinking about it one minute!!!

  7. good luck says:

Everybody fights…but this place must remain for BVIslanders and belongers and their children that is why I am not putting any island man in office

    • air force one says:

Dirt dont belong to nobody. we just here for a time. Names and faces will change, 500 years from now u think Tola will still look the same? it will have
      indians from tola,
      spanish from tola,
      whites from tola,
      Philippinoes from tola

everybody need to stop fighting and work together.

    • Eyes On The Prize says:

I hear you. Too bad for you. It means that you won’t be voting for anyone in the upcoming election. Every man and woman on the ballot is an island man or woman. What do you think the BVI is a continent? So shallow and lost, how do you function on a daily basis? Do you get frequent breaks from your job so you can think. Seems like you can’t do more than one thing at a time. You sure can’t read and comprehend at the same time. Not to worry, by Friday you would understand what I just said. Please stop blogging until you learn how to think and write. I know you can’t think by the way you blog. Poor creature.
