ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- TICO BVI, through its distribution of Highland Spring Mineral Water in the territory, has yet again confirmed its sponsorship of H. Lavity Stoutt Community College’s annual Race Series, which is slated to begin on Saturday 17 September at the Paraquita Bay Campus.

On Friday 2 September, Senior Lecturer in the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department Stephanie Russ Penn, who also serves as Race Director, received a cheque worth $1,500 from TICO BVI, a press release from the college stated.

In addition to the financial contribution, the company also donates Highland Spring Mineral Water and fruit juices for each race held on Tortola and Virgin Gorda.

In expressing appreciation, Ms. Russ Penn noted that TICO has been as an outstanding and dedicated sponsor of the races since 2001. “We certainly look forward to the continued support of TICO to keep the series running year after year,” she said.

“Our appreciation is extended to all the members of your staff for their kindness and assistance,” she told Gary Charlton, Sales Manager of TICO, who presented the cheque to the College.

In response, Mr. Charlton pledged his company’s continued support for the races and praised the Race Director for her relentless dedication to making sure the event is organised and conducted successfully every year.

Last year, President Dr. Karl Dawson presented a commemorative plaque to General Manager of TICO John Charlton during an awards ceremony which concluded the 2010 series. At the time, he said the College welcomes and seeks to foster meaningful partnerships with the private sector.

“The support of TICO for the race series over the years is one which we have always cherished, and is indeed a symbol of how businesses in the territory can collaborate with Government agencies for the benefit of the wider community,” he said.

As part of the series this year, there will be two “Races For A Cause” in partnership with the BVI Diabetes Association––one on Virgin Gorda on Saturday 29 October and the other on Tortola on Saturday 12 November.

Over the years, the series has continued to grow and remains an event to which the community looks forward around this time. The full schedule for 2011 Tortola: 17 September, 1 October, 15 October, 12 November and 26 November; Virgin Gorda: 24 September, 8 October, 29 October and 5 November.
