Stop spoon feeding us – NDP youths tell government
The youths on the radio programme "NDP Radio" charged that government has only been spoon feeding the people and not empowering them to be self sufficient. Photo: VINO
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The older candidates of the National Democratic Party (NDP) seemed to have taken a night off from their campaigning to allow their youths to do it for them on the radio programme “NDP Radio” aired last evening October 3, 2011.
The youths took the opportunity to make their feelings heard about the parties and spared no opportunity to heavily criticize the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government, which they said seemed to have no vision and was handicapping the people by “spoon feeding” them rather than empowering them to help themselves.
They, however, made it clear that while they were not against Government helping the people in certain circumstances, they were against making the people dependent on Government assistance.
“This Government for some reason don’t know their priorities. They spend money and for some reason they don’t know how to make revenues for the country. Right now the country is in a very, very terrible state according to the revenue base. We spending nearly 300 million dollars and only collecting about two (hundred million dollars) so we need to find another 150 million dollars and this current administration to me look like they don’t have no idea and where to start and how to get revenues for this country,” said Bevin George, who was one of the members on the youth panel.
Mr. George also charged that the VIP did not have a team as they were not working together and also failed to complete the objectives of their manifesto.
“Their manifesto is something like they just went on Google and Google this thing. It’s just whatever information they got up and they feel they could have done, they just put it on a piece of paper but it was not a realistic plan. The NDP had a realistic plan when they were in, in 2003”, added Mr. George, who also claimed that the NDP completed 95 percent of their manifesto in their last term in office.
Mr. George went as far to say that he felt that the Premier should relinquish his position. “They have the responsibility of looking after the generation after us. They have the responsibility to look out for us….so the baton has to get passed on. The current leadership of this current government needs to pass on the baton. I am sorry to say. The man work his years yes but right now where our country is at and how the world is changing you need fresh ideas.”
Mr. George also suggested that instead of having tax exemptions on building materials for first time home owners, Government should have extended the gesture to businesses that sell such materials so that monies could be spent at home and more locals would benefit.
One caller, however, said such offers were extended to businesses before but those that benefited did not pass on the benefits to the consumers as prices remained the same or continued to increase.
Speaking on the Small Business Bureau, which was an initiative of the NDP to empower youths especially to become entrepreneurs, programme host Laverna Fahie said that was one of the reasons why she was supporting the NDP.
Sabrina Matthew said she was in support of the NDP because she has a passion for the well-being of the country and specifically tourism development and that the NDP’s plans for tourism were “quite vivid”.

Set of brain washed little fools, that don’t have a clue!
Are the children the same young fool that you may need they vote one day you guys are so sicken, they had a beautiful program last nite, you more sound like a fool
I have to say that the VIP didn’t do so well in the last 4 years but in no way can you compare them to the NDP. They are headfast on the highway to creating opportunities for themselves. I am sure they do care about the youth so does the VIP but their motives are strictly politics. But they do care about the youths of their own homes, friends and their little clubs that they have all through the islands. It is these same youths they use to motivate the other youths of the community. You see, the NDP are society people so their children are society children and they are always in this club or another out doing things. The VIP on the other hand are not on that level and while some of their children may be part of this, it may be on a far lower level. You see NDP children are heads of groups and little societies so they are more influential. They may have convinced some of the youths with their lies and deceit but I don’t think they will affect all of them. Let’s pray for our country. The NDP are well dress, educated……… Well dress and educated is good but ………. is what is scary. There are 2 good members in that party and soon they will find it difficult to work with them as well, if they haven’t already. The youths are smarter than we think, they too will soon see them for who they are, if not sooner then later. Not all that glitters is gold. God has his will in all things…… not just for people praying to help their party win an election. God you decide.
Oh shut up with the nonsense! The bottomline is only people with education and common sense will make it in this global world. You can pick where you want to be! Envy and jealousy are bad things, get help for that nasty habit you have! What does any group etc. have to do with anything? Ralph in the Lodge, Omar in the Lodge, Carvin big in Rotary and I can go on and on, what’s your point? Don’t blame people for educating their kids and them being influential people in society! This is the first place I see where it’s a bad thing to be confident and do well by yourself. Then you idiots wonder why outsiders can come in here and do as they please? We hate confidence and forward movement! We rather settle and be nothing!!
When we put our best foot forward and demand a slice of the BVI pie, OUR COUNTRY, we are called ‘high society’, but we are trained and encouraged to clean ghuts, cut bush and drive around in the hot sun all day in a big truck, while expats come in by the droves and eat up the lucrative jobs paying big money and offering many opportunities! I believe in common sense and forward movement. You are a very sick individual and need to seek help quickly! The youth of today don’t need to hear that ignorance! They should strive to be all they can be in order to excel and make a mark in THEIR OWN COUNTRY! Who don’t like it leave it! It’s like all of you hating investment club members instead of looking at their model and forming your own club to enrich and benefit for yourselves. House slave mentality on the loose again, can’t believe we are in 2011!!
In NO way…………..no way u could say ndp dont care about the youths!!!!!!! They had plans for several new schools and they aquired land for it and the dumb people of the bvi put back in vip who say it doesnt need a school………..all eshs need is a damn fence for security……………………u aint see dem dum. dA IS not caring for the youths.
Vision is what they lackin”in 4 years ndp do what vip cant do in over 30 years When hl.stoutt proposed the college ralph opposed him to the fullest…….buh look now YOUTHS ralph dem aint give a damn bout de youths “leh we do this ting” more…………………………………………
LOOK IN THe end we need to see futher than the line we lookin at V.I.P aint no what they doing and in this bvi we aint moving forward with them…..up to now that little hospital wa they meet almost complete cant complete….uhh we de money? we in a financial hole again?? NDP gots to fix it again.
IN V.G ndp built |renovated the seaport in gun creek VIP dem shut it down u know how much tourist da use to bring?
On a certain road them build a humongerous side walk were people dont walk dat only messin up people wheel when they driving wa is that. District nine aint recieving squat from ralph……….we need change see what change can do……BFEC produces some of the best people in the bvi (like me) uncle ralph old a$$ cant even give us nothing good yet to say we is a role model school he lose all vision
VIP aint got no plan for de future none they shouldnt be campaingning on what ndp do 4 years ago they should be saying look wa we doing in our time butt…………………………they have nuttin to say beacause they aint do come on people open your eyes.
What the hell are you guys talking about?
I hope everyone listen and noticed how much they had those poor youths programme with a script..it’s just sicken how the NDP continues to use these poor kids…it’s shameful and we know deep down the NDP care nothing about the youths as in their four years they have not done one thing for the youths…not one thing!
Do you count not one things as 1. Making college free, 2. Creating the TVET Programme to offer higher certification for trade minded students, 3. The full proposal for the new High School, 4. The Small Business Burea that specifically had and agenda for youths in business, 5. Expanding the Ministry of Education to become Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports, and there are more. Is this what you mean by not one things?
This is worthless on the NDP part another one of their brilliant scheme to manipulate the younger ones to vote for them and don’t look back after, so sad. Stop it and if God wants hyprocrits there he sure will give NDP a chance to rule. I am not going to vote period cause I can’t but NDP is not a good preference.
Brain washed little fools?????????? So because they are young they can’t see for themselves, they can’t hear for themselves, they can’t speak for themselves? That’s my question to you, don’t underestimate the youths of this virgin islands. I don’t believe in the “NDP youths” title because quite frankly the youths shouldn’t be long to the NDP but to the territory so they should have said Virgin Islands Youths.
I am so sick and sooo tired of this young and dumb mentality the older heads in this territory has about the youths , if most of you guys took the time to listen, you would know how smart the youths are in this territory. You live, you learn everyday, how do you learn, you listen, the older heads and the youths work together, if we show respect for each other and welcome suggestions with an open mind, the future of this country will be bright.
The brainwash would come in, if or when they are convinced that the NDP is THE ONLY party to bring the country forward. You are free to disagree but please do not insult, the youths are speaking regardless of whether you share their views are not, respectfully disagree, but the youths are speaking, PLEASE PEOPLE LISTEN.
Yes, I’m Astonished!!!!!! …I’m with you they forgot that the young adults of today have a voice, the older folk already worked hard and most of them don’t want to give up that power to allow our generation to take over, what’s going to happen if most of these old folks think that they are going live for ever…the Young people need to have their own mind and own voice without that they just are been keep behind because of the old ones who don’t want to see them be someone in the BVI… It’s all good that the young youths finished High School but it’s not right that they get involoved in the polictical aspect of their country…… These young adults are no fools like what everyone wants them to be….so to those folks, once a child turned Eighteen he’s/she has the right to express their views, so if the people obove posted who said these kids are script then I think your the ones who’s been script for the pasted 30 years.
Right know Tortola is backwards really backwards no one wants to live outside their confort zone.. and to insinuate that our young adults don’t know squat is because you as a person still living in a world you haven’t or don’t want to change.
I’m not a VIP OR NDP suportor I’m a young Adult myself…so I’ll wave to see who is the better party..
So wait, hold up!! The youth that vote for VIP so they could own a second hand, 10yr old 3 yard truck and make $500.00 for the week are not brainwashed. But the youth that are educated and willing to work hard make REAL MONEY and see the place move forward are brainwashed? The youth that say blatantly that NDP is the best Government but VIP gives them money, are not brainwashed, but the kids that want to work for their own are brainwashed? WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m 32yrs old and I support the NDP and their plans! I also support what the youth said on the radio program! Am I brainwashed?
What’s the difference between a young person supporting the VIP and a young person supporting the NDP!!! You all are just upset because VIP does NOT have a youth movemement! It’s jealousy! Let’s get some youth on the airwaves to tell us why they support VIP, that will NEVER HAPPEN!!! Everytime people come with intelligent conversation and expose the idiots, they’re called brainwashed! If you notice, most of the NDP youth have PRIVATE JOBS! They don’t depend on the Government for anything and will survive whether NDP is in or not! So what’s brainwashing about that?
Again I ask, when you hear young men especially say NDP has the better ideas but they like VIP because they ‘give’ them jobs and ‘give’ them money and they were promised a truck, himac, contract or whatever for their vote. Is that a Government that cares about the youth? NO!!! So I challenge the VIP to show me their youth movement!! Show me the youth that support VIP! NO NOT ONE!! Only ZOE LMAO!!!
Both VIP and NDP let down the people of the BVI. The direction NDP was going in they did not consider what the people want they just decided to do what THEY thought was the best thing for the country, and this is wrong. Then with VIP they holding back progress based on their old fashion way of doing things, and yes they help people but the ones that they are help already have it and they leaving poor people behind. Thats the problem with this election because the people dont have no confidence in either party, and more than likely people are going to make their selection on an individual basis not by party so you all (both NDP and VIP) better make up your minds to work together and put country and people first. If they is done each side will hold each other accountable for their actions. So I would encourage everyone dont be fooled and vote for an entire party, choose according to who your heart tells you to and the rest will work itself out, so if you want some from NDP, VIP and Independent thats ok its you choice lets shake them all up this election and make them work for their money.
really though…If you elect an official to run your country then you should let him run your country. The people have a say but they need to say it through the representatives…you’re saying in that statement that NDP was doing what they felt was good for the country and not what the people want, well let me give you a little news flash not everything the people want is good for the country. People generally look out for themselves and most ideas they come up with are based on their own agenda. Political representatives are there to take the collective gist from all walks of life and make an educated decision as to the way forward. Just think if past leaders had taken the side of those that didnt feel like slavery should be abolished here in the Caribbean and the US where would the world be right now. and things like segregation laws and stuff like that if they had listened to the “people” rather than thinking for the good of the country where would we all be. People of the VI need to start thinking country first, if they havent noticed when the country suffers we all suffer, and when the country benifits we all benifit. Alot of time is spent wondering what we can get out of gov’t that those who really need never get and those who get take the lions share.
Not NDP Youth Virgin Islands Youth people. NDP do not control our minds the minds of the YOUTHS OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS we can make up our own mind to say and do what’s right
Well it look like VIP people so illiterate that they can’t understand the logic behind the Youth’s stance.
I wonder if they even can understand what I just wrote?
That’s the problem with the older folks. While all of them are soliciting the votes of the youths, they still think that we are stupid. If we speak in favour of the members of the VIP we are brained washed by them, and if we speak in favour of the members of the NDP, then we are brained washed by the NDP. The members of all parties were arouond with registration forms pushing down our throats to get us to register, now we are brained wash. Keep talking hogwash because when we young people get to the poles on election day, we will talk then. I am sick of people belittling us. What is happening in this country is affecting us more than the older folks, and if you guys think that some of us young people are not paying attention then you are making some serious mistakes.
This is a NEW NDP! VIP are the same old recycled people and ideas! These young guns of NDP will ensure that we the people are heard! You think they stupid to make the same mistakes again? Everybody willing to admit that NDP was one of the best Governments we ever had but they went terribly wrong when they ignored us, especially with the development issues. I trust they’ve learned from that! They obviously learned from last elections and are now throwing back blows! That’s a good sign! When I say throwing blows I mean answering back all the LIES the VIP telling on them and putting out FACTS!!
The NEW NDP will clean up this place, fix infrastructure etc. so that we can be proud of our Territory again! Drove through Road Town lately? Check across from VQ, across from Ashly Building, total filth! Look at Noel Lloyd building, a ghetto, look at the market square, look at the cruise pier, look down at crafts alive, look at long bush, look at scatliffe alley despite the rep being from right in there, look at the vicinity of the Cultural Centre and sports complex, it’s TOTALLY DISGUSTING!! This is our capital and we bragging about bringing thousands more tourists. TO SEE WHAT AND TO DO WHAT???? You don’t bring in people by the droves without a plan! New NDP has a plan and I’m supporting them along with my family and friends!
VIP only upset because they don’t have a youth movement. What does it say about a party when NO YOUTH are interested in what they stand for? LMAOOOOOOO! That’s a damn shame!!!!!!
its just a sin how the NDP in there usual despreation for power has taken to using children to expolit….where is the law enforcement???
Where is law enforcement? You mean where is the DICTIONARY! LMAO!!! WOW!! Ignorance is truly bliss!!!
Incase you didn’t realise, the legal age to vote is 18yrs old. The Youth supporting the NDP are 18 and older, they’re old enough to drink, hang out, drive etc, they’re old enough to decide who they support based on the information received. Now, when you and Fraser driving through sea cows bay promising people to pave roads, give bush contracts, buy trucks, buy himacks, build homes, buy school clothing and books for kids and all that stuff, they aren’t brainwashed right?
I’m not making this stuff up! People have told me about it, so don’t come here with no brainwash crap! You all are just upset that your ‘good to great’ program hasn’t been able to dumb down our youth. Smart youth means no VIP, that’s your problem!! HAHAHA!!! The youth want to hear real solutions and people who can speak proper english and articulate themselves. That’s why a man like Myron has such a following with the youth! Look at OJ in the 3rd, the youth ARE BEHIND HIM!!! You think any young people will choose Julian over OJ? NEVER! Only those looking a quick bush cutting and trucking!!! Nobody who cares about their future will vote Fraser!!!
vino look how the NDP paid blogers have taken over your site with them golvoer parks popoganda…VIP and them supporters fast asleep deman
Thats why NDP lost the last election. The ppl of the lower and middle classess couldnt relate to the NDP. The comments seen this election and during the last made by apparent NDP bloggers seem to imply that members and supporters of the NDP are more intelligent than anyone else. Even if it were so, the tone of delivery comes off as pompous and borderline bigotry. To classify a whole other section of the community as small thinkers or fools will only lead to the perception that the NDP is catering to the “upper levels” of society which is the actual voting minority.
PLEASE! NDP lost the last elections because the economy was good and people believed the VIP lies! Do you realize that VIP and their candidates now agree 100% with all NDP development plans? The same plans that cost NDP the elections? This had nothing to do with lil man or big man, it had to do with lies and propaganda! The people won’t buy it this time!
Pompous? So, because I can speak and write the Queen’s proper English and state facts, it means I think I’m better than you? If I’m better than you so what? If you are dumb and ignorant and I call you dumb and ignorant, it may seem harsh but it’s the TRUTH, no? There are lots of opportunities for economical advancement in the BVI and until we hold our heads high and take our rightful place in our own country, we will suffer! Look how many of our young men are headed to prison to face LIFE, because they believed in the fast life, they believe college was for the ‘highty tighty’ and they believed wearing a long sleeve and working 8hr days was being a ‘punk’. That’s the attitude those like you support!!
People feel hurt in their pockets! They want a plan to get this economy moving again! They won’t fall for BS this time, they want real solutions and money back in their pockets. Big man or lil man, everybody understands that NDP is the party with plans and that can get investors spending again in our country!!! We broke, we don’t need time for no society lesson! We can be whatever we choose to be in life, stop the nonsense!
I poor. Agreed. I uneducated. Agreed. But nobody (you too) better than me.
“If I’m better than you so what?” Wow . . . . .I glad all NDP ain’ like you.
You are absolutely right, they are a set of elitist who believe when God was sharing he give them all the brains!
Let’s recap YOUNG MEN: they are into smoking n drinking, name brand clothing, rap and dancehall music, fast money, fast cars, and fast women/girls. YOUNG WOMEN: they are into getting their nails done, hair done, a new outfit for the day, sexy guys, employed guys, guys with money……oh yeah…..i just remembered having baby daddies………is that what you think that young ppl are all about? you think because this is what you see, that means that’s what you will get? you think that we are incapable of seeing the needs of our country?
WELL WAKE UP! There are more to us than what you think ok, SOOO much more. and WHEN THE NDP is elected you’ll see. Not all bloggers are paid bloggers, so how you do you know who’s paid and who isn’t? For there are real ppl who are FED UP with the VIP government.
It’s the ELECTION HALF-TIME REPORT and so far I’m seeing 2 scenarios based on the current field:
1) We have a lot of eager, willing candidates that really dislike the direction the present Government has taken the country and want to make a difference BUT are politically immature and don’t realize that too many candidates in any race dilutes the overall vote for the opposition, and return the incumbent government by default.
(2) This sudden onrush of eager candidates have been encouraged/paid by VIP backers or the party itself to act as spoilers, producing the same result… the return of the VIP.
Don’t believe me? Let’s review the score so far…
DISTRICT 1: Andrew Fahie (VIP), Preston Stoutt (Ind.)
DISTRICT 2: Alvin Christopher (VIP), Claude Cline (NDP), Barbie Smith (Ind.), L. Rhymer (Ind.)
DISTRICT 3: Julian Christopher (VIP), Kevin OJ Smith (NDP)
DISTRICT 4: Vincent Scatliffe (VIP), Mark Vanterpool (NDP), Colin Scatliffe (Ind.)
DISTRICT 5: Elvis Harrigan (VIP), Delores Christopher (NDP)
DISTRICT 6: Omar Hodge (VIP), Alvera Maduro-Caines (NDP)
DISTRICT 7: Ronnie Lettsome (VIP), Kedrick Pickering (NDP), Allen Wheatley (Ind.)
DISTRICT 8: Dancia Penn (VIP), Marlon Penn (NDP), A. Nolan Davies (Ind.), Bevis Sylvester (Ind.)
DISTRICT 9: Ralph T. O’Neal (VIP), Hubert O’Neal (NDP), Lorrie Rhymer (Ind.), Devon Osborne (Ind.), Samuel O’Neal (Ind.)
AT-LARGE: Zoe McMillan (VIP), Keith Flax (VIP), Vernon Malone (VIP), Irene O’Neal (VIP), Myron Walwyn (NDP), Ronnie Skelton (NDP), Archie Christian (NDP), Orlando Smith (NDP), Elton Callwood (PPA), Shaina Smith (PPA), Natalio Wheatley (NDP), Khoy Smith (NDP), Bertrand Lettsome (Ind), Edmund Maduro (Ind.), Courtney DeCastro (Ind.), “Cannon” (Ind.), and maybe a few more I forgot about…
Looking at the spread, it appears that the VIP may be hedging its bets in the Districts or areas where it feels vulnerable, namely the 2nd, 4th, 8th and 9th Districts and also the At-Large seats…. Time will tell if my analysis is right.
At this moment looking at the field and their relative chances, I’m predicting the VIP winning Districts 1, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 2 At-Large seats giving them a total of 7. I predict the NDP will win Districts 2, 3, 4, 7 and 2 At-Large seats giving them a total of 6 seats. Everyone else is a spoiler…. If the trends continue as they are (for better or worse) we’re looking at the possibility of a VIP Government and a NDP opposition.
Only time will tell if I’m right… the votes are all up to us.
them young retard
Thats the same thing I mentioned about NDP youths, supporters, bloggers thinking they better than everybody else. This taken from Real Talk (apparent NDP supporter/blogger), ” they believe college was for the ‘highty tighty’ and they believed wearing a long sleeve and working 8hr days was being a ‘punk’. That’s the attitude those like you support!!” What part of my comment insist that I am some delinquent . I am currently at work in my tie and long sleeve ( both Ralph Lauren purple label) where I am holding a supervisory position as a client relations officer at one of the top firms in the BVI. I watched during the last election where the NDP youths pushed the whole we speak proper English, went to college so we know who should win the elections crap every week. These same people all came from families where they were well off and think they too large for everyone else. Other people saw and will see that as a negative view on behalf of the NDP and will vote against this party. Everybody’s vote counts whether they say deh man or the man, employed or unemployed, rich or poor and its a shame that you claim to represent the NDP with that type of attitude.
People of the BVI look at the various news websites. Take a look at the comments, the ignorance of the supporters of the NDP party is shining brightest. People are not allowed to have a differing view without being labeled as a fool, a convict or downright crazy. The bad thing is that some of the members of the party have this same mindset as well. The bloggers are their colleagues, business partners, friends, their relatives. The ones that will have a direct influence on the decisions they will make when in office. Just like any government our X on November 7, 2011 DO NOT have any power in commanding them in making any changes or laws to benefit you or me. In short words the representatives will do what’s best for them. Tell anybody that says they are better than you, that you will do better than them. Come poll day make a decision that you are no man’s footstool, say no to bigotry and those that would preach that white and black, locals and foreigners cannot work together.
It’s sopoky how clever some ppl are. Thanks!
