Milton McLean for Sea Cows Bay Basketball Club presents Maurice Wattley and District 5 the MLK Jnr. Championship Trophy after their 55-40 victory over District 3.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Milton McLean held a brief ceremony on Saturday January 28, 2012 on the basketball court in Sea Cows Bay to draw to a close the Martin Luther King Junior Knockout Tournament held the previous weekend.

Although a personal preference is to award the trophies the same night as the Championship, Mr. Milton McLean has to be applauded for his efforts in getting the youths constructively occupied through sport. Despite a lack of respect being shown by some of the players, McLean has promised to keep on instilling the twin pillars of discipline and respect during every tournament and the SCBBC hosts.

His sentiments were echoed by Maurice Wattley the coach of the winning team and also coach of Another Level. He had made sure his squad was in attendance by bringing them himself to the occasion.

Tournament MVP of the Runners Up, District 3’s Akeem Nibbs wasn’t there to pick up his trophy and the MVP of the Champions, District 5’s Jamie McKoy was also absent.

Trophies for the runners up and champions were also presented by Milton McLean.

The Championship Game had been a tense, close affair until Jamie McKoy made some decisive scores to give his side the edge.

“We expected more teams, but the tournament was still a great success,” commented McLean. “The final was very competitive until the last 3 minutes. Then Jamie McKoy hit a game changing 3 pointer and made a great assist to give his team a 7 point lead. From there they were able to withstand some intense pressure and run out worthy winners.”

Final Results:

Championship Game: District 5: 53 District 3: 40
For D-5 Jamie McKoy; 11 points, 1 rebound, Rasheed 11 points, 1 rebound, Terique Wattley 8 points, 1 rebound and Vincent 8 points, 1 rebound

For District 3 Akeem Nibbs 12 points, 3 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists, Deondre Smith 12 points and Thomas Richardson 11 points, 1 assist
