ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Some of the Virgin Islands’ best female softball players will be on show at the Old Recreation Ground this weekend, when teams from St Thomas and St Croix arrive to take on the Elmore Stoutt High School Rams in the BVI High School Girls Softball Tournament.
First up for the Rams will be a rematch against St Croix Complex, whom they beat at the Ruby Rutnik Memorial Softball Tournament in St John. The game will also be the first time the two teams have met since the ill fated Complex High School Softball Tournament when gunfire at the park caused the cancellation of the event.
If those two memories weren’t enough to stir the emotions, then add into the mix that the game could be the last time the BVI gets to see three of the games future stars in action.
Sheniqua “Bam-Bam” Fahie, Jelissa “Shelly” Potter and Marissa Malone are all heading off to colleges or universities.
“The other teams better be ready, because we girls are coming no less than hard!” stated Sheniqua Fahie
Following the first game, Complex High School will play the Combined St Thomas team, and on Sunday, the Rams will be back in action to take on the St Thomas team.
Terry Chinnery, the organizer, said it’s taken a long time to get sorted. “We have talked about this happening for years now,” he commented. “I’m just glad we were able to get it done this time!”
