ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Premier Ralph T O’Neal has vowed to do all that he can to assist the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), despite being accused of giving preferential treatment to the department.

“I have been blamed for giving the police funding more than any other department, and my reply is when you and I are in our beds sleeping these men and women are up and down patrolling the ocean and streets,” the Territory’s leader stated on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the Police Marine Base, Road Reef where two new vessels were given to the Force.

He emphasized that officers deserve good treatment since the Virgin Islands would be in chaos if they decided that they should only work eight hours a day. According to him, he has seen some Police Officers who have worked 24 hours, “without complaint in protecting us”.

“…and we have a right to take care of them, and as long as I am in any position when it calls for defending or assisting the police force I am prepared to do that regardless of what might happen,” the Premier pledged.

He also pointed out that officers don’t look at what the Labour Code says when they are called out for duty.

Furthermore, he thanked them for the dedication they are tasked with to execute the job in keeping residents safe.

The police got the most money of any department but still crime is still up…while the UK officers just drinking at the bars and getting drunk…

    • Jealous? says:

Always the same person making the same comment. What are you so jealous about? The few UK officers that are here work very hard and are involved in all the major crime cases. So what if they go to a bar or the beach on their time off. The only thing I am against is that these officers were supposedly brought here for a short period of time, to assist in solving crimes and to train our own officers. Well, they’ve been here for quite some time now and one new one recently came in. Why is it we still need these guys on the force? Have they not done their duty and trained members of our own force? These guy earning more than the others which has to create resentment. It is about time the RVIPF begins to wind down the contracts of these oFficers. We could have been better served having sent our own officers off for extensive crime scene investigation courses in the UK and build up morale and talent within our own forces. An important factor with any job is the ability to improve yourself, learn new skills and be rewarded through promotions and raises. In keeping the UK officers there are others being held back. I’m sure by now that whatever these guys had to teach, has been done, and the local force can take over and continue forward with the duties.

  7. tell the whole story says:

the police force will never get better as long as you have a class system..one for locals, one for whites and another for the island men officers
