Twenty seven burglaries have been reported.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – According to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), a record high of 27 burglaries has been reported across the Territory within the last two weeks.
Twenty of the burglaries were of homes and almost all took place during the daytime hours while residents were at work with what appeared to be serial burglaries in Sage Mountain/ Windy Hill, Hannahs Estate and Baughers Bay areas in Tortola and North Sound in Virgin Gorda. Seven of the burglaries were of businesses.

A lone male approximately six feet tall was seen inside a Great Mountain home but ran when he was spotted by residents.
Police are presently following leads into these burglaries however they continue to appeal for vigilance from homeowners to do what is necessary to protect their interests. Critical security items are operational security cameras, alarm systems and security windows.
Security inspections are offered to homeowners through the Crime Prevention Unit of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force. Persons can telephone 494-3822 ext 5384 for an appointment.
The public is also asked not to purchase any electronic items or jewelry off the streets or from persons who are not licensed to sell. Report any suspicious behaviour of any kind to the Police.
Vehicles with unlocked doors and laptops, cellular phones and purses in open view also continue to be targeted.
Thieves are staking out parking lots at popular entertainment sites such as Up’s Cineplex, Cultural Centre and at ports of entry. While these areas are patrolled by police, the public must do their part in protecting personal property by locking doors and securing valuables.
