ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – “It is a travesty to know, whether it is factual or not, the confidentiality of Human Resources matters continue to be leaked to the public,” revealed Minister for Education and Culture, Andrew Fahie, who will be doing something about it.

In an exclusive interview with VINO recently, the frank politician insisted that the culprits need to desist such practice.

“It is not giving any credence to if it so or not, but the fact that things of this nature continue to be leaked especially to the media is alarming. It is an indictment on the security of the Territory and we must have the mind-set to have it solved,” Hon. Fahie said.

In giving a scenario, the Education Minister noted that if someone is recommended for a position and the appointment was not approved, when leaked, it creates a lot of havoc.

“Even if it [appointment] is recommended and approved you create a lot of imbalance with the staff and a lot of anxiety with the staff. Most of all the trust in the public service breaks down when this happens,” he explained.

Furthermore, Hon. Fahie said, “That aspect has to be worked on…and I noticed it is coming mostly out of my Ministry. It has to be handled with the requisite authorities which will be the Governor, the Deputy Governor and HR personnel. It cannot be allowed to continue.”

Against this backdrop, a formal complaint will be documented, Minister Fahie added.

    • vix says:

I agree they link all kinds of information to deeds online. Look what happen to the Premier’s office that forced out a PS…leeks rules in the civil service especially with all the NDPs

Clearly trust and professionalism has broken down. In any organization regardless if it is a public or private must be able to operate with a high level of professionalism. Leaking of private and confidential in formation is a serious issue. It causes the breakdown of good order and discipline. It result in a dysfunctional organization that cannot trust employees and where each employee is treated with suspicion.

Employment is a contract between the employee and the employer. Both parties have an obligation to honor the terms and condition of the contract. And leaking information is a breach of contract regardless of the reason(s) for the breach whether it is politics, spite…….etc. The leaking affect both the guilty and innocent. For example if a department have a reputation for leaks, other departments or ministries may be hesitant in promoting employees from the dept. with the notorious reputation.

Employees may be disgruntled with how a dept or ministry is run but if the dept head or minister is not violating any policy(s), asking you to do something illegal or immoral then one is duty bound to carry out lawful orders. The civil service has a process for handling violations. Use it. Leaking is cancerous. And like any cancer it need to be treated. Serious consequences for confirmed leakers.

How can a person lauch an investigation on themself

  6. talk talk talk says:

in today’s world everyone talks about everyone. As a matter of fact them talk about Jesus Christ who is you or me. And what i have observed at my place of work the leak of information comes from the head because them have there special persons who them tell the story to and that special person has others who they tell, so leaking of information is no surprise. And it will continue to be that way we either live with it or else.
