Ninth District Candidate Lorie Rymer at a recent meeting in Virgin Gorda.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Ninth District candidate in the upcoming general election Lori Rymer is unapologetic and will stand by what he said about the Lemurs that United Kingdom millionaire Sir Richard Branson wants to import to his private island in the Virgin Islands (VI).

In an invited comment to VINO the outspoken politician adamantly stated, “I will not change what I said. I stand by my word”.

He was responding to an article in which he was interviewed by Virgin Islands Platinum News, a local online news site, on the issue.

However, the online site had to publicly apologize to Sir. Branson for inaccuracies in the article. It was published on April 21, 2011. Seven days after the article was written, the online newspaper retracted the article and issued this statement.

According to the Telegraph, Sir. Branson has backed down and agreed to keep the lemurs in large enclosures until further research is carried out into the impact their release would have. Photo: ALAMY

“Having now heard from Sir Richard, we accept that: 1) Sir Richard has never planned to import lemurs from Madagascar but only from accredited zoos; 2) The United Kingdom authorities have had no conversations with Sir Richard in relation to this issue; 3) he has never faced nor has he been threatened with legal action, fines or imprisonment; and 4) The animals will be fully quarantined and inoculated to protect against major diseases. BVI Platinum News, in an effort to be fair and balanced, is pleased to publish a letter from Sir Richard, Saving The Lemur,” was the apology issued by the news site.

Since January 2011, Mr. Rymer has brought to forefront the lemur issue, where he has accused Government especially Minister for Natural Resources and Labor, Omar Hodge, of ignoring agencies warnings and giving Sir. Branson the green light to import the exotic animals.

But i woulda liked Branson to have sued them and then call it off jus to teach them the real lesson.
