ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Second District Representative, Alvin Christopher is worried that some of the reports that were needed to show Government’s accountability and transparency have not been forthcoming for several projects.

Speaking this morning in the House of Assembly, Hon. Christopher told the Speaker of the House that it was imperative to take necessary steps for the reports to be handed in as was requested by the Standing Finance Committee (SFC) during its deliberations.

“We cannot take the public funds and spend them and not be accountable,” Hon. Christopher pointed out.

He further stated that while the rules of the House do not outline what action the Speaker can take, he suggested that the United Kingdom rules and regulations could be applied and interpreted.

In light of this, the Second District Representative he is urging the Speaker, Roy Harrigan to move swiftly on the matter.

Agreeing with the Second District Representative, were Minister for Health and Social Development Dancia Penn and At Large Representative Vernon Malone.

According to Hon. Penn the role of legislators is to serve the people and in not providing the necessary documents to support tax payers monies is “failing the community’s expectations of us.”

She suggested that Mr. Harrigan take the matter “very seriously” and take in under advisement because “the problem is not going away and should not go away.”

”Our role is simple… to uphold those rules,” Hon. Penn added.

Likewise, Hon. Malone said the matter is of “fundamental importance to Government.”

“We can’t have a situation where we are elected by the people…It is our responsibility to look at all money matters…it is my duty to demand that information be available to us no matter what it is,” he declared.

It never cease to amaze me the ignorance and stupidity of our people. We are our own worst enemies, fighting among each other like crabs in a bucket. The stereotype “stupid and dumb” with which we were and still is labelled has some truth to it. Now here is a man who has been nothing but passive over the past eight years, in his district and the BVI as a whole and people are still backing him and his constituents who have fired him, took his position, cannot advise him to sit down. When are we as a people going to choose leaders who has the ability to lead us. Don’t we have any dignity and any pride to have better expectations and goals for ourselves? We sit in jobs for years with no growth, no ambition to move on year after year. Come on people rise up and demand the best for yourselves and your children

You always looking to see who thiefing or dishonest and you have been the biggest thief the House of Assembly has ever seen. Come with solutions and stop always blaming, blaming, blaming & always trying to tarnish the names of who you hate.Stop playing GOD!
