ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Ricky Callwood, who is currently serving five years for raping his tenant on Jost Van Dyke (JVD), will get a chance to appeal his conviction in January 2012 at the next sitting of the Court of Appeal.

He was found guilty in April 2010 in the High Court. The verdict was 7-2.

His lawyer, Anthea Smith on Monday September 26, 2011 asked for the extension and has to file her written submissions to the court by the end of October.

The JVD resident landed in hot water after the Virtual Complainant (VC) told investigating officers that he raped her on September 15, 2007 at his White Bay residence. She had visited the home to collect some mutton.

During the trial, the jurors heard that Mr. Callwood grabbed her and pushed her on a sofa. It was revealed that the VC was wearing a short skirt and the two began to struggle and ended with the convicted man raping her.

Shocked over the incident, the VC later informed her boyfriend who was in St. Thomas at the time. The matter was reported on September 17, 2007 to Police.

It’s a pity your appeal did’nt get the chance to be heard this time around so that you could get to spend Christmas on JVD with your family, but this time next year you will be with them. Wait on the Lord and be of good courage. He has kept you this far and He will carry you the rest of the way. That Jamaican girl will get her reward in due time. Vengance is mine said the Lord.
