ROAD TOWN Tortola VI: Speaking yesterday Thursday 19 June at the House of Assembly under other business, Minister for Communications and Works and Representative for the Third District Honourable Julian Fraser, came out in support of his Permanent Secretary Julian Willock who was sent on compulsory leave last month over an article written in a local newspaper.
Minister Fraser blasted the “forces of evil and injustice” which he surmised was the only reason why Willock was targeted.
The article, which former Governor David Peary described as unsubstantiated, was used as the basis to launch an investigation into Willock’s ties with the new online news agency Virgin Islands News Online VINO.
The article accused Willock of having persons working in the Virgin Islands without work permits. However, the Labour Department, in a letter written to the reporter before the article was published by the paper, confirmed that the persons in question had their work permits in order.
Persons close to the case believe that the article was racist and politically motivated and an attempt to distort Willock’s good personal and professional integrity and to get at Minister Fraser, who some perceive as being arrogant and misguided. However, Minister Fraser told the House of Assembly yesterday, that “they cannot break me or the Ministry”.
Minister Fraser also reported that he was told that the same writer of the article is the one who draws cartoons of Virgin Islanders portraying them as baboons.
There has been no update regarding the investigation launched into Willock’s alleged conduct. No acting Permanent Secretary has yet been named to the Ministry of Communications and Works while Willock remains on leave.

Have to say this article is much more pleasing to read than those on the other sites (about the same story). I’m happy that this newsite is here. It kinda brings a fresh perspective to things/news. To those who may think this is willock or one of his fans, it’s really not cause, i’m really not necessarily a fan, just happy to get refreshing news, that’s not tacky…………On another note, please jazz up the site a bit more…….
