Darel Jr. excels in St. Croix

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – National cyclist Darel Christopher Jr. continues to showcase his talent regionally after placing second last Sunday in a road race in St. Croix.
From a field of 15 elite riders, the young cyclist completed the 54-mile Angel Incarnation Invitational Race in 2 hours 37 minutes and 43 seconds to take second place behind Robert Marsh of Antigua who won the race in 2 hours 27 minutes.
Antiguan Neil Lloyd finished in third place in 2:37:45 with his colleague Ken Jackson taking fourth place in 2:37:46 while Tim Smith of St. Croix clocked 2:42:05 to take fifth place.
The race comprised of five preme sprints, three was won by Marsh, one by Christopher Jr. and the other by Lloyd.
The invitational race attracted 45 riders overall.
“We continue to see the improvement in Darel Jr.’s cycling ability as he continues to develop to represent us in regional and international events,” said Coach Darel Christopher Sr. noting that the young rider has since returned to Antigua to continue more races and training.
On August 14, Christopher Jr. won a 30-mile criterium in Antigua which was part of a three-stage race that he participated in.
On August 29, he will be competing in a 45-mile road race in Antigua.
