ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The British Virgin Islands will join its Caribbean constituents in celebrating Caribbean Tourism day on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 under the theme, “One Sea, One Voice, One Caribbean.”

The objectives of Caribbean Tourism Day are to raise awareness among Caribbean people on the importance of tourism in the Caribbean, to enhance the profile of the Caribbean Tourism sector in the marketplace, to reflect on the invaluable impact of tourism on the economic, social and cultural well being in the Caribbean and to attract positive media coverage of the Caribbean.

To commemorate the day, the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board will:

  • Air the Premier and Minister responsible for Tourism, Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal’s speech on all local radio stations.  Publish said speech on local news websites, the BVI Tourist Board’s website and other social websites such as facebook
  • Decorate all ports of entry in CTO colours
  • Provide Caribbean music at the Terrance B. Lettsome Airport and the Road Town harbor ports of entry
  • Present tourists with a welcome gift at each port of entry in an effort to highlight the country’s gratitude for their choosing the BVI as their destination of choice to spend their vacation.

The celebrating of Caribbean Tourism Day will also serve as a launching pad for the upcoming Tourism Week slated for November 22 through 26.  During this week, members of the public are invited to listen to local radio stations for ‘Did You Know’ segments on the British Virgin Islands, participate in the local photo exhibition and join members of the BVI Tourist Board in the Noel Lloyd Park for an all day cultural event filled with fun, food and music.
