BVI Rugby holds Barbados but lose to T&T, Bahamas and Mexico
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – At the end of the first day’s play at the North American and Caribbean Rugby Association Men’s Sevens Tournament being held in Guyana, the BVI finished 5th in their group and will play today in the plate competition.
The first match of the day saw the BVI up against the Bahamas, who blew the BVI away with 35-0 victory.
Next up was Barbados and the two evenly matched teams fought out a 7-7 draw, to give the BVI its first points.
The third match of the day was a 31–5 defeat by Mexico a fast emerging Rugby Nation and the toughest match was saved until last as the BVI faced a drubbing by the powerful Trinidad and Tobago side, a tournament favourite along with Guyana. The final score line of 46 – 0 a fair reflection on the different ends of the Rugby playing spectrum in the Caribbean.
Today, the BVI will be up against St. Lucia and Barbados as they try to win the plate competition.
The winner of the tournament will not only be crowned the regional Caribbean Championship but also secure their place in the 2011 PANAM Games alongside fellow NACRA Members Canada and the USA and host Union Mexico.
