ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Ninth District candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP) believes that futuristically, Anegada will become the mecca of Tourism for the Virgin Islands.

Dr. Hubert O’Neal was at the time responding to a caller on NDP radio programme on Monday May 16, 2011 who had asked what the Virgin Islands was doing to help Anegada. The caller, who had visited the island for the first time, said it was beautiful and asked that it not be forgotten as it is part of the islands that make up the Virgin Islands.

“… the experiences over there are wonderful.  I think futuristically, Anegada is going to be the mecca of tourism in the BVI because it is totally flat, it is easy to develop,” Dr. O’Neal said.

The NDP 9th district candidate said his party is looking forward to “when we form the next government that we are going to assist the people in Anegada, first of all to get their land titles”.

Dr. O’Neal further stated that the issue of land titles is a number of issues for Anegadians and one that his Party will give priority.

“They have been suffering for all these years and not being issued their land titles to develop the land on their own. We are going to facilitate those Anegadians to get their land titles so they can do their developments for those who want to get into building resorts etc,” he explained.

“It is my intention as their future representative is to assist them to get moving and develop Anegada,” he further stated, noting that there is a lot of potential on the island.

Meanwhile, in February 2010, 29 Anegadians were granted their freehold titles to land which had marked the first step in the long awaited land distribution process.

Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Hon. Omar W. Hodge had stated that it was not an easy job to arrive at that point but noted that he was extremely pleased to give out titles to the people of Anegada.
During the February 2010 ceremony on Anegada, the Minister had stated that “Government will not stop distributing titles until every Anegadian receives a title in his or her hand. The land of Anegada belongs to the people of Anegada”.

According to VI records, it was since the mid 1800s, that resolving the ownership of lands in Anegada first received serious consideration, Minister Hodge had stated in a 2008 address on the Anegada Development Project and land Allocation task.

“Most Anegadians alive will tell you that Her Majesty Queen Victoria, by way of the then Governor in the form of an Ordinance, allotted the Anegada Lands to the Claimants of Anegada. I can tell you proudly that under my stewardship as Minister for Natural Resources and Labour in the late 1980s, I commissioned a report by John Douglas Barrymore Renwick which was received in 1988 and which has been the basis for the allocations we now pursue,” he had stated.

  1. oooo says:

  2. Bell Vew says:

for jesus sake dem NDP spend four years in office and never did a ting now dem ah talk but tourism…eh?

    • NDP Watch Dog says:

Everytime they tried to do anything for Tourism you and your ignorant VIP pals shouted INVADERS INVADERS! Now the same VIP Government adapting the same approach they chided the NDP for. HAHAHA!!! IT’s really funny how you all prove yourself to be total idiots and don’t even realise it! All the plans and developments they wanted to move forward to better our Tourism Product, you all called them sell-outs! Now you turn around and asking what they’ve done for Tourism? WTF??? Is your brains on fire?? LOL!!

  3. Hubert? says:

Oh Hubert you go and run your eye place.

  4. Real Talk says:

Ralph was over Oil Nut Bay posing with Mr. Johnson and Victor International at their Regatta. Who approved Oil Nut project? Who was against it? Research!!!

    • trouble says:

Ha ha “REAL TALK” and your point is? Why you aint do the research and tell we?

    • Really? says:

Ask how the land transaction transpired between the owners, real estate company and it ending up in court. The whole deal was highway robbery at its best. I am not supporting NDP nor VIP, just the whole principle of the situation was utterly wrong.

      • NDP Attack Dog says:

It’s neither NDP or VIP fault that some families don’t have any common sense and are greedy for the mighty dollar! If anybody approach me to sell land I will LEASE it to them for a long-term! Government cannot stop a family from selling their land! Whatever price they decide that’s their business! The only time Government gets involved is after the sale when the developer actually wants to DEVELOP the property! So, VIP, NDP or POP, none of them can force anybody to sell or not to sell their land! I hear people chatting nonsense about Government giving away! ALL the land being sold around here it’s locals, many of whom don’t live here and don’t give a damn about the BVI, just US Dollar!!

Moskito was sold to Brasnson for around $20Mil, an entire island GONE for $20 friggin million!!! Government didn’t sell it, it was a private sale! Then after the sale everybody jumping down the Government throat! My point about development had nothing to do with who sold land, what expired etc. It was to prove a mere point about positive development for the Territory! Ralph and his crew of blind mice tried to scare people last Election saying the INVADERS COMING! How the hell politicians can be on the airwaves talking such drivel and expect people to want to invest here? AFter all his blah blah he up posting in pictures with the finished product. Big hypocrite with a set of dumb and blind followers! Eat that!!

        • flat rock says:

So true some are selling their land just because of greed , and they want to be in this society BS.They forget once they sell the land it is not theirs anymore, and the person they sell to have the same right to talk in any public meeting as they do.I am waiting for the next land development meeting.Jokes can’t done.

  5. Virgin Gorda Massive says:
