All will be crystal when Bash meets West in DP Best of the Best Basketball
The two teams, the best of Virgin Gorda and Tortola that will be competing in the Best of the Best Basketball Championship.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The only thing lacking was some dry ice billowing across the stage and flashing lights as Delta Petroleum’s Regional General Manager Bevis Sylvester, launched the Delta Petroleum All Star “The Best of the Best” Basketball match between Virgin Gorda and Tortola scheduled to take place on October 30, 2010.
The NBA style launch wasn’t all about Sylvester though, first, Regional Organisational Manager, Chaunci Cline, whipped the partisan crowd into a frenzy of excitement and anticipation.
There was singing of songs, playing of music and lots of clapping as the moment when the teams were to be announced got nearer.
Mr. Sylvester announced that at stake is “not your usual trophy, but Crystal! The winning team will receive $2,000 and the losers $1,000. The game’s MVP will get $500 plus a trophy and so on for each category”.
“I promise big wild and different things,” he promised, “the winner of this All Star Game will be going to play the best of St Kitts, also the winners will get rings.”
Coach “Bash” Brewley then announced some of his team including Assistant Coach, Dwayne Rubaine and players Deon Blyden, Rabsatt, Avery Percival Dameon Ottley, David Lettsome, Kennedy Bass, Nathaniel Malone and Jason Edwin.
Trevor “West” Stevens team includes Randy George, J R Vanterpool, Shekimba George, Lee Evans Jacobs, Devon Wall, Jason Levons, Kirwani Stevens and Jevonne Demming.
He described his team as “Young, Quick and Energetic”.
“Bash” said he hasn’t planned any training sessions as he can “gel any team and I’m just going to let them off the chains!”
The fans won’t be left out either. Each coach was given a bag of supporters’ T shirts and each travelling spectator to Saturday’s game on Virgin Gorda who wears the shirt will travel for free. Roadtown Fast Ferry will be departing Roadtown at 6 p.m. on Saturday and returning after the game.
This Thursday, both teams will be taking part in a motorcade around their respective islands. On Tortola it will start at 4 p.m. from East End, heading all the way west, stopping at Paula’s in Baughers Bay for a block party.
The Virgin Gorda Parade will travel around from the Harbour to North Sound making several stops along the way.
