More illegal migrants repatriated
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Yesterday, the Immigration Department confirmed that it has repatriated four more illegal migrants to Haiti.
Chief Immigration Officer Mr. Dennis Jennings confirmed that four male Haitians left on Monday evening on a chartered flight to Port-Au-Prince, Haiti and were accompanied by an immigration officer.
This has brought the total number of illegal migrants recently repatriated by Government to 20 following last Thursday’s repatriation of 16 female illegal migrants to Haiti who were part of the 67 illegal migrants that were intercepted on August 15 and 16.
A joint operation of Customs, Immigration and Police Officers caught the illegal migrants on Norman Island after their vessel developed engine problems.
In 2008, a total of 34 illegal migrants were found in the Territory, down from 53 in 2007. In early 2009, 16 illegal migrants were discovered in the VI.
