Dr. Pickering: Illegal migrants would provide complications to Territory
Dr. Kedrick Pickering, 7th District Representative.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Calls for the illegal migrants to remain in the Territory will have major implications, stated Seventh District Representative Dr. Kedrick Pickering during his presentation of the 2011 budget debate that is currently going on in the House of Assembly, Wednesday, December 22.
According to Dr. Pickering, while he understands the compassion, he disagrees with religious leaders and other members of the public calling for Government to allow the 25 Haitians, who survived a tragic boat mishap to remain in the Territory.
“To have them remain here will have major implications to us,” he said.
On Monday, December 6, the Virgin Islands Search and Rescue, Customs and Marine rushed to Brandywine Bay area where a 25-foot power boat ran aground a reef.
The aftermath of the accident left eight dead, four of which were children. The captain of the vessel, Roro Edourre, has been charged with eight counts of manslaughter and is on remand.
VINO was informed that some of the migrants paid as much as $1,500 to reach the USVI

pickering wid he ussal blah blah blah blah
you may not agree but he is telling the truth.
I totally agree with Dr. Pickering…do we want to set a precedent? NO. These people have illegally entered our territory and the pastors coming with their crop about allowing to stay. Let Charles go back with them to Haiti and if he cannot carry all give some to Blanche.
Let them go home by the 1st January, that would have been enough compassion we have showed them. We did not have to show any but we did. Think on the consequences of tomorrow people….what happen when the next banana boat comes with the rest…are we going to say show compassion and allow them t stay??hell no……they all of them need to be charge for illegal entry and the parents need additional charges of manslaughter
I agreed that we need to show compassion. However if we allow this to continue it will have implications for the territory lateron. We are a country of rules which have to be followed and not of men.
See why we aint putting in the NDP next year! They are mean spirited and have to compassion for the poor and most venerable in our society. They remind me of the Republicans in the USA….. heartless!
Now what is the reason why we can’t help our brothers and sisters from Haiti? I totally disagree with Kendick.
THE NDP IS heartless the DO NOT CARE about people…THE DOCTOR SPEECH IS another fine example
i second the motion
Pickering going right back there….he said we cant keep them and I said he is correct. We are a small island with rules and regulations and we must live up to them. You 2 pastors cant vote.so dont make your foolish comments …he going back in and the hole NDP team. On a serious note…these peiple/Haitians have broke our laws and they just have to go…….look at the big picture…………tomoorow we dont want to gave to do it all over again…..this little island will soon sink.we need control…law and order and the 2 pastors who are not even from here out of place to try to break our laws…………it will not affect them because they dont care..well I care about me litle tortola……..carry some Trinidad Blanchey and Charlesy my boy well you can go and carry them with you…thats your country isnt it??
