PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI– In a move that underscores the power of alumni achievement and industry driven education, the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) has launched newly designed chef jackets created by HLSCC alumna Kristin C. Frazer, Founder and Creative Director of Trefle Inc., for use within the College’s Culinary Arts Programme.

The initiative, according to HLSCC, reflects a deliberate effort to strengthen the link between education and industry while elevating professional standards in culinary training and positioning Virgin Islander talent at the heart of institutional growth.

Designed by Frazer, who completed her studies at HLSCC before establishing her fashion and design company, the chef jackets combine functionality, craftsmanship, and contemporary design. The jackets are intended to reinforce professional identity and pride among students while aligning the training environment with the expectations of the modern hospitality and culinary industries.

'A full circle moment'

“For me, this project represents a full‑circle moment,” Frazer said. “HLSCC helped shape my journey, and being able to give back in a way that supports today’s students is incredibly meaningful. These chef jackets were designed with professionalism, confidence, and purpose in mind—qualities that are essential in the culinary industry.”

The jackets will make their first official appearance at the HLSCC 2026 Graduation Ceremony, where Culinary Arts graduands will be seen wearing the designs as they mark the completion of their academic journey. College officials say this moment symbolises both tradition and transition, highlighting how professional identity and industry readiness are embedded throughout the student experience.

'A powerful message'

Director of Hospitality and Culinary Arts at HLSCC, Keshia Davis-Barnes, described the collaboration as a tangible expression of the College’s strategic direction.

“Our focus is on ensuring that students are immersed in professional standards from the moment they enter our programmes,” the Director said. “Partnering with an alumna who understands both the HLSCC experience and the realities of the industry sends a powerful message to our students—that excellence is achievable and that their education connects directly to real‑world opportunity.”

HLSCC said the initiative aligns closely with its strategic goal of expanding industry engagement, alumni partnerships, and workforce incentives within key economic sectors. Hospitality remains a cornerstone of the Virgin Islands economy, and the College continues to position its Culinary Arts Programme as a pipeline for skilled, confident professionals ready to contribute at the highest level.

The chef robe launch also complements recent developments within the Department of Culinary Arts and Hospitality, including the College’s partnership with Les Roches, one of the world’s leading hospitality education institutions. Through the Les Roches Maître D Certificate Programme, HLSCC students and professionals gain access to internationally recognised training aimed at elevating service excellence across restaurants, hotels, resorts, and the wider tourism sector.

“The hospitality industry is evolving, and our programmes must evolve alongside it,” the Director added. “From global partnerships like Les Roches to local collaborations with alumni and industry partners, we are intentionally building pathways that prepare our students to meet—and exceed—industry expectations.”

College officials noted that the collaboration with Trefle Inc. is part of a broader departmental push to introduce new partnerships, incentives, and experiential opportunities that strengthen student preparedness while fostering closer ties with the hospitality industry. Additional initiatives are expected to be announced in the coming months as the department continues to expand its industry‑driven approach.

“This collaboration reflects the values we stand for as an institution,” said Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr Ronald A. Brunton. “It shows how education, creativity, and partnership can work together to build opportunity for our students and our community.”
