Unity Gov’t had to ‘act quickly’ to prevent suspension of Constitution– Premier

Wheatley (R7) says the suspension of the Virgin Islands (VI) constitution was the CoI recommendation on which the other recommendations rested, and as such, his Unity Government had to act fast in negotiations with the United Kingdom (UK).

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Amid push back by Virgin Islanders, as well as foreign leaders and entities, to the draconian and undemocratic recommendation of direct rule by the United Kingdom (UK), the UK has decided to hold off on direct rule for now, but firmly reminded that it will be implemented if the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) are not implemented without justifiable reasons.
