FAT HOGS BAY, Tortola, VI- Virgin Islands Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) says the suspension of the Virgin Islands (VI) constitution was the CoI recommendation on which the other recommendations rested, and as such, his Unity Government had to act fast in negotiations with the United Kingdom (UK).

The Premier made the statement during this Monday, June 20, 2022, episode of Tola radio's ‘Da Morning Braff’ radio show with host Floyd Burnett aka 'Heritage’ where he reminded that the VI is still a territory of the UK.

VI still a 'territory of UK' - Premier Dr Wheatley

“We are not an independent country, we are a territory… and our constitution is an order of the UK Parliament, and that constitution can be suspended at any time… that’s something that people need to understand,” he reminded.

“The United Kingdom, based on this recommendation, was prepared… of course, they had not made a decision as yet, and it was important for us to act quickly, but the recommendation was for the constitution to be suspended partially,” he added.

The Premier noted that the partial suspension was for the Cabinet and House of Assembly to be dissolved and for the Governor to have executive and legislative authority over the VI with an advisory council.

“The United Kingdom can do that without consultation, in fact, they have been through the Commission of Inquiry process gathering all the information, and right after the report was published… The Right Hon Amanda Milling was in the BVI by Monday,” for consultations he said.

“So in that process… we had to act quickly to give the United Kingdom an alternative to suspending the constituting and implementing these reforms themselves,” he added.

VI people serious about implementing CoI Recommendations- Premier

The Premier said the Unity Government proposed that the people of the VI be the ones to implement the recommendations.

He said the first order of business would have been for the VI to persuade the UK parties that the people of the VI were serious and capable of being able to implement reform.

“And It’s important to us because for the last 70 years and even beyond that, we have been fighting for the right to have our own House of Assembly, to have executive authority on ministerial government [and] to have our own Minister of Finance and control our own finances,” which he said will come through democracy in the best interest of the people of the VI.

People wake up! if our Constitution can be suspended at anytime by the UK what we have is not a constitution. Other terms that we use that make no sense are (negotiate, partnerships). By now we should be able to recognize our relationship with the UK.

What senceless, foolish boasting by our current Premier, and of course the current put together, but not by the people approval, as if we are ignorant of the facts.
The facts are in the revelation process, and it's continuation is are ongoing. Boasting is useless. All attempts to cover up truth is a waste of time.
The clock is ticking. The countdown has already began.
There are many demands gto be fulfilled within a certain time period, accurately. That should be your focus, seriously. Hon. Premier, not mouthing off, but insuring that the CoI recommdations are not violated.

Deliberately removal of like vs dislike from my comments is a deliberately attempt to decieve the public. The former Premier Andrew A. Fahie thought that he was smart. In the English language dictionary the work smart don't mean a tricky, deceptive person or animals. Smart people, animal, insects show proof of their knowledge, humans by their words, and especially wisdom by the actions.
The word stealth means to commoflage or, if you notice closely, the first four (4) letters in the word stealth spelt steal. That is our main reason we, especially our politicians, and even more so our previous cabinet fell from grace.
I have, and I clearly know what deceptive tactics, not all but some, of the deceptive tactics that our current administration is doing in order to keep the veil over the eyes of our people, especially the new so-called unity government.
"If God be for us, who can be (prevailed) us, not even Satan, his demonic angels, and human supporters will be able to hinder God's will. All that God allowed will happen, what He doesn't won't.
When lies, and opinions fail, crumbled into nothingness, truth alone will remain eternal.

(Note: No one is obligated to vote like or dislike on the above, the choice is yours. I am not begging for like, but if you vote like, thank you, but if you vote dislike, I respect your rights to your opinion.)

To who it may concern or rather "Who the cap fit let himself wears it." True leadership represent the people interest, not the people represent the leaders personal interest.
Let others praise you, not your own mouth.
Self praise is pridefullness of a lustful mind.

We should start electing leaders and stop electing politicians because politicians looks out for their interest. After being elected a politician's top priority is to be re-elected.

Thank you Honorable Premier, you did what had to be done to save our “democracy” or the power of the people. The power remains with us and not one man from the uk. We escaped the bullet but the gun is still pointed right at us. Let us as a country roll up our sleeves and do the work needed to get rid of that gun. We as a people and a young democracy have what it takes to decide for ourselves what is best for us. We have been doing it for 70 years. Let’s milk the coi for all we can get, learn our lesson, and keep pressing. We owe to those past and those coming. ????????
