USVI: 71st Annual J’Ouvert draws throngs to Frederiksted in Cultural Extravaganza

FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI- The streets of Frederiksted came alive from 6:00 AM on Thursday, January 4, 2024, as thousands of revelers enjoyed J’Ouvert celebrations. The event, a staple on the Crucian Christmas Festival’s calendar, is in its 71st year, and attracts participants from the territory, region, and mainland USA.
'Electrifying' Rise & Shine Tramp hits Road Town
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– As the three-day emancipation holiday gets started today, Monday, August 7, 2023, hundreds of revelers flooded the streets of Tortola this morning, tramping from Port Purcell into De Castro Street to Administration Drive in Road Town, the capital of Tortola for the 2023 Emancipation Rise and Shine Tramp.
USVI man accused of physically assaulting wife @ J'Ouvert

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI — A man, Coy Gumbs, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses following his alleged violent and disruptive behavior at J’Ouvert celebrations on April 27, 2023. His wife reported that Gumbs harassed her and her friends during the festivities, leading to altercations that involved both physical assault and a breach of peace.
Emancipation 2022: Post pandemic J'ouvert dubbed a major success

USVI Carnival Races moved to Thursday after J'ouvert

CHARLOTTE, AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI- Acting Governor of the US Virgin Islands, Mr Osbert E. Potter announced Wednesday June 1, 2016 that, beginning in 2017, the Virgin Islands Carnival (St Thomas Carnival) horse races will be held on Thursday, following the J’ouvert Morning festivities.
