VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- One day after the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee (VIF&FC) issued a press release announcing the cancellation of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Monday Parade, the Sub-Committee was instructed to make it happen.

In a press release that came out on Friday night, April 15, 2022, the VIFFC said, "Due to various factors, unfortunately, there won’t be a parade this year.”

However, while delivering remarks at the opening ceremony of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival at the Raul ‘Jougo’ Sprauve Festiville on April 16, 2022, Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) made it emphatically clear that Rise and Shine Tramp and the Easter Monday Parade must happen, even if it means him tramping solo.

‘We are going to have jouvert Monday & Parade’- Hon Wheatley

"Somebody tell me, some Tortola man saying Parade, we ain't got no Jouvert, I don't believe that is true because I told Chairman [Mr Franklin Walters Chairman of the VG Easter Festival Committe] make sure Monday when I get up early, I get a jouvert because I have a special costume for my jouvert Monday Rise and Shine."

He added, "Unless the Minister for Health, who is here, tells me differently we are going to have jouvert Monday and we are going to have a parade Monday. If it’s me alone I jumping up me alone, so all of you who had changed your mind and gone and pack up your costume take them back out. Ayo meet me on the road, meet me on the road. When you see me just throw me a bottle of water, you will know what to do next."

According to the Ninth District Representative, he has the full support of Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) to make the Easter Monday Parade and Rise and Shine happen.

So far there has been no official announcement from the VIF&FC or its sub-committee on whether the Easter Monday Parade will be held.

When you there fretting over Jouvert and Parade Please call Mr. Walters or whoever was in charge of the Car Show on Saturday to PLEASE give the Winners and even the other participants MONETARY gifts. Yes a Trophy is Good but you need to look that most of these Vehicles and Bikes all came from Tortola and without them coming over here, we would not have be able to have a Car Show. Come on, it cost them money to fix up their rides and to transport it over here. Then still had to Pay to enter the Show. Come on Hon. Wheatley do better for your Locals.

The car show is not a festival event. It is run by a separate association. They just have it at festival. But they can reach out fir sponsors just like the fishing tournament, lions club, etc

Sorry, but you have this all wrong. Monetary gifts should be given out but those funds should be sourced from the many businesses that are benefiting and making money from this very successful weekend. Every car rented, every hotel. guest house, Airbnb and cardboard box rented. If you don't ask you won't get and as long as as you continue to do what is obviously NOT working you end up with the same results. DUH!

Exactly Maybell....After all, cost of living is high in BVI and VG pulled in some good money for this Easter weekend. Hotels booked out, Car Rentals out, everything was booked out. Just think on all the money these folks spend on Paint and detailing these rides. The prizes should have been way better and it would be a good encouragement/motivation to come back again next year.
