UPDATE: Police charge two in firearm seizure

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Police officially charged Antonio Stoutt, 25, of Horse Path and Edwin Ortiz, 23, of Great Mountain for carrying an unlicensed firearm. Both appeared in Magistrate’s Court and were each given $65,000 bail with $5,000 to be presented in cash.

On Sunday evening, officers of the Task Force along with the Proactive Team conducted a stop-search operation on the Sir Francis Drake Highway. The search of one vehicle resulted in the seizure of a loaded 99mm handgun.

The driver, Stoutt and the passenger, Ortiz, were both taken into custody.

Police seize firearm in stop/search; two arrested

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A Police led stop-search operation on the Sir Francis Drake Highway last night resulted in the seizure of a firearm and the arrest of two men.

Officers of the Task Force along with the Proactive Team searched the vehicle found the firearm. The only occupants of the vehicle, a driver and one passenger, were both taken into custody following the seizure.

No charges have yet been laid.

Police continue investigations.
