ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - It was an emotional moment in the High Court this morning June 18, 2013 when Ms Mary Stoddard took to the witness stand on day two of the trial for the murder of her daughter, Kwanna Todd-Rhymer. Charged for the crime is Alcedo Tyson.

Ms stoddard wept uncontrollably during her testimony while the accused looked and listened with a blank expression. He periodically bowed his head but kept looking straight at the broken mother for the most part.

According to the still hurting woman, she was not aware that her daughter and Tyson had a problem at the time despite the fact that Kwanna Todd-Rhymer and Tyson were no longer living together.

Ms Stoddard recalled that her daughter was pregnant in 2010 and she had been living with Tyson in 2009. At the time of her demise she was living with a sister.

The mother recalled last seeing her daughter alive on March 15, 2012 when she had visited and had a meal. Ms Todd-Rhymer was shot and killed in the wee hours of March 16, 2012 shortly after exiting a nightclub at Baughers Bay.

Three other witnesses, all of whom are officers attached to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), also gave testimony today.

Officer Dorsey Tittle told the court he had observed three wounds on the body of Ms Todd-Rhymer while at the crime scene. There was a wound to the front left side of the neck, one to the stomach to the right of the navel and the other on the left side of the back, according to Tittle.

The same officer also recalled seeing two 45mm cartridge casings and a spent bullet in close proximity of the motionless body of Todd-Rhymer.

Throughout the displaying of photographs taken at the crime scene, the defendant maintained his expressionless posture.

UPDATE: Tyson was seen stalking victim on night of shooting - court

As the trial of murder accused Alcedo Tyson commenced yesterday June 17, 2013 in the High Court of the Virgin Islands, the incidents leading up to the alleged act were told to the Jury. The accused, Alcedo Tyson, had pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder when he appeared before Justice Albert Redhead.

In her opening statement, Senior Crown Council Leslie Ann Faulkner directed the minds of the jury and those present to the early morning of March 16, 2012 when Kwanna Todd-Rhymer, who was only 20 years old at the time, had her life ended prematurely allegedly at the hands of Tyson.

According to Ms Faulkner, Todd-Rhymer and the accused had a relationship which had ended prior to the incident. She recalled that on March 15, 2012 the young lady in the company of some friends had gone to Perler's Bar where Tyson was also seen around the same night.

The victim had left for Duces' club in the early morning hours of March 16, 2012 where again the accused was allegedly seen. This time, according to the crown, he was seen staring in the direction of the young lady.

As Todd-Rhymer was leaving the Duces' club, it was alleged that Tyson was noticed running to the car park and then came back to the direction where Todd-Rhymer was, lifted his hand in which he had an object believed to have been a gun, and shot the young woman.

As Todd-Rhymer fell to the ground, the court was told, the accused shot her yet another time.

By the time the relevant authorities arrived on the scene, Todd-Rhymer's body was allegedly lifeless.

I don’t understand how someone could come to a decision like this to take a person’s life. But only God knows what drove him to this point. May your soul continue to R.I.P Kwanna. Truly a sad story!

Strupppps, the whole story is upsetting. A waste of two young lives, un-necessarily; one in the cemetery and one in the prison with a strong possibility of NEVER regaining freedom. Sighhh ...... it cannot be easy for the parents on both sides. Young people (or people on the whole), please learn to deal with anger and/or rejection better. The senseless killings must stop!!

Not guilty Where is the evidence if a relationship ends both parties are free to go where they want if no gun present and the clothes ain't match along with the gun powder residue on the accused well looks how the government going get a sue for defamation of caractor so make sure u have a good case to prove the accused did it cause lack of evidence and poor dective work along with no valid witness to place the accused at the seen of the crime pulling the trigger

@where is the justice, u a typical stupid jack@$%%, when u have MULTIPLE witnesses seeing someone shoot the victim is proof enough, god ignorance is so rampant it makes me sickly. U obviously didn't do well in Language Arts either, u obviously lack serious comprehension skills and btw dective is spelt detective, and seen is spelt scene, idiot! Let's hope u never experience ur mother, sister or even daughter die heinously at a barrel of a gun, then u would not be posting 'where is the justice'.

If I was in that courtroom to see n hear her mother cry, that would've made me cry and angry all at the same time. And none of that would undo what's done nor bring her daughter back; I can't help but wonder how he felt and what was going through his mind as her mother sobbed.
