ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- It was in September 2023, that Governor of the [British] Virgin Islands (VI) Mr John J. Rankin, CMG had said his office has a fund totalling $30,000 to finance youth empowerment projects in the VI and that it was welcoming applications from organisations, or partnerships across organisations for projects up to the value of $10,000.

The Governor’s Office has since announced that grants have been awarded to three youth empowerment projects- Mentoring Anointed Leaders Everywhere (MALE), Road Town Boys and Girls Brigade, and H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC).

According to a press release from Government Information Services (GIS) on December 8, 2023, MALE will run a series of intensive mental health workshops for young men; the Road Town Boys and Girls Brigade will revitalise their programs, with funding used to replace parade flags, drilling equipment, marching drums, uniforms and renew  their websites and online store, amongst other things; and HLSCC will deliver media production development workshops to empower local youth.

The youth empowerment projects cater to 13- to 21-year-olds.

12 excellent applications’ were received- Gov Rankin

The Governor’s Office said it invited bids earlier this year and received “12 excellent applications” from established non-profit organisations in the Territory which were assessed by a committee from the Governor’s Office and VI Government.

The projects were required to contribute to the delivery of the National Sustainable Development Plan’s goal: Islanders are empowered for a Sustainable Future in an Inclusive Vibrant Society, Living Fulfilling Lives.

Governor Rankin met with the successful applicants on December 7, 2023, to offer his congratulations.

The Governor said “I am delighted to announce today funding for three youth empowerment projects. I know these projects will benefit the lives of young people in the BVI. I am grateful for the very high calibre of applications we received and thank everyone involved.”

The United Kingdom, which is represented by the Governor’s Office in the VI, is often criticised for not doing enough to empower citizens of her Caribbean Overseas Territories, especially in the area of education, but spares no effort in building prisons.

Our Governor John Rankin's $30,000.00 grant to three youth employment projects helps. Now it to our government leaders in power to match that amount or better yet give a larger amount. Even though Governor's grants are not as large as should have been, it is our political leaders that promised the citizens of the BVI that they will represent their best interest.
This truth should never be taken lightly; "A chain is no stronger than it's weakest link. Because of the above quoted truth, the progression strength of all countries physical development cannot be isolated from it spiritual, physical, social, and economical balance inclusiveness of the youth, without disregarding the value productiveness of other demographic positive input.

This is just another brainwashing tactic by the Governor and UK. They spent $10 million on the COI. $1 million on a prearranged report on the security of the BVI. Now come give $10k to appease some fools like some of you. BVI Government has and continue to meaningfully invest in the youth and country for years. HLSCC is free for all belongers. Secondary & primary education is free for all. Many after school programs which are free through the Department of Youth Affairs. The list is long. We understand the games the Governor and his UK bosses are playing and we will take the money but never fall for it. The UK spend more to try to enslave us and put us in jail than they do to educate and liberate us.

Cause you are getting tossed under the moving train wheels today. $30,000 is a good start and it is much better than having none. I agree, how much did you donated to the cause?
