USVI: Carnival Village opens with tribute to Malvern Gumbs

FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI— With the official opening of Carnival Village on Monday night, festivities on St. Thomas have kicked into high gear. Dubbed “Malvern’s Melodic Greathouse” after music educator Malvern Gumbs, the village was a hive of activity as patrons criss-crossed the grounds, sampling food and beverages from vendor booths.

CRUZ BAY, St John, USVI — The St John 2016 Festival ended on Monday July 4, 2016 with a colorful parade, and later that evening with fireworks commemorating Independence Day, and a finale Festival Village night that closed with the legendary Krosfyah band out of Barbados.
Governor Mapp pleased with STT Children’s Carnival

Mapp on Friday April 29, 2016 said he was pleased to see a strong turnout — at least in the carnival square where all main performances traditionally take place (there were complaints of low turnouts throughout the carnival route) — for the Children’s Parade, which has struggled with attendance in recent years.

For years now we have been trying to put on a Virgin Islands Festival and we have not been at all successful. Now, according to the news report on BVI News online, the Minister is now considering a proposal to have three separate festivals on Tortola which means the Virgin Islands Festival will now officially become a “three part” Tortola Festival celebrated in Road Town, East End and Carrot Bay.
