Amnesty for expats applying for ‘Residency Status’
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The recently elected government of the Virgin Islands (VI) will be offering a period of amnesty, for all expatriates and other residents residing in the Territory that have reached and satisfactorily satisfied the requirements to be granted, ‘Residency Status.’

For years, here in The Virgin Islands, there is a continuous conversation by so many people in regards to children being born in this Territory by expatriate parents and about the length of time that so many expatriates have been here and cannot get Belongers Status. ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Father Ronald Branche and his wife Mrs Heather Branche were decorated with certificates legitimising their status as Belongers, thanks to Premier and Minister of Finance Dr The Honourable D Orlando Smith.

An Op Ed of July 18, 2013 in a national Virgin islands weekly was a story headed, "WHERE ARE WE GOING.’’ It was a continuation from a first story, the second part of a two part narrative, the first titled: "TERRITORY’S ECONOMIC HISTORY RECOUNTED.’’ This second story was a lamentation on how the Virgin Islands, "has ended up with a household where her own people are outnumbered.’’ This was a very valid concern by the Virgin Islander.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- In January, 2012 we announced that an investigation had been launched into the process of applying for grants of Certificates of Residence under the Immigration and Passport Act. The expressed aim was to establish what happens, in general, to applications after they are presented at the Department of Immigration for consideration by the Board of Immigration and then by the Cabinet, which makes the ultimate decision.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Musician and performer, Wilkins ‘El Flaco’ Ramirez, a national of the Dominican Republic who has Belonger status in the Virgin Islands (VI), expressed that there is so little support to his talent coming from Virgin Islanders which is a huge disadvantage to his abilities.
