All airports remain open in the Virgin Islands

One airline cancels flights, others still operating as normal
All three airports in the Virgin Islands on the islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda and Anegada remain open despite the VI being under a warning from Tropical Storm Rafael. Photo: VINO
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Despite the Virgin Islands being under a Flash Flood Warning from Tropical Storm Rafael, all of the three Virgin Island's Airports remain open. This is according to Denniston S. Fraser, Managing Director of the BVI Airports Authority.

The airports are Tortola’s Terrance B. Lettsome International, Anegada’s Auguste George and Virgin Gorda’s Taddy Bay, according to Mr. Fraser.

However,  Cape Air Caribbean flights have been cancelled for the rest of the day. LIAT and American Airline/American Eagle are operating as normal, according to the Managing Director. 

Mr. Fraser told this news site that closures may be necessary later this evening as the storm system gets closer and they will give another update at 8 P.M. this evening, October13, 2012. 

USVI Ports closed

Earlier in the day, the Department of Disaster Management announced that all United States Virgin Islands' Sea Ports of Entry are closed.  This has resulted in no ferry services between the Virgin Islands and the USVI until further notice. 

The Virgin Islands is still under a tropical storm warning. A recent report shows that the worst weather is in the lesser Antilles moving N to NE away from the Virgin Islands.

As of 5:00 pm, Tropical Storm Rafael was located 17.3N and 63.W with max sustained winds of 50mph.

    Ok, but St. Thomas cancelled flights to Miami this Sunday Afternoon and you can't get on another one till Tuesday, of your lucky
