ROAD TOWN, Tortola VI- Saying ‘thank you’ goes a long way but the BVI Horse Owners Association has gone a little further by hosting a ‘grand’ luncheon and exhibition horse race for several persons who have been credited with contributing towards the development of horse racing in the Virgin Islands.

Those to be honoured at the luncheon to be held at Ellis Thomas Downs on Sunday April 17, 2016 are Rita Francis, William Rymer, Mark Simmonds, Granville Christopher, John Nibbs and Winfred Maduro.

The noble initiative is that of President of the BVI Horse Owners Association, Patsy C. Lake, who said she always had it in mind since being elected President. “It was always the intention to honour those persons who have given of their time, money and talent because I am sure you are aware there is no money in horse racing. It’s all for the love of the sport in these islands,” Lake told Virgin Islands News Online.

The persons to be honoured were named randomly by the Association.

“This is a series of luncheons we are going to have to recognise people who have put into the sport over the years. This is just the first set, we are going to do it in sets of six,” Lake added.

The luncheon will be held on the concrete are in front of the grandstands.

“We hope it will be well attended. We are going to turn the concrete area in front of the stands into a lovely dining room.”

There will also be a fashion display by JBY Fashion and an exhibition race for the benefit of the honourees.

The luncheon is set for 1pm on Sunday April 17, 2016. Tickets cost $30 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under and can be purchased from any member of the association and at One Stop Mall in Road Town, Tortola.
