ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Due to the drastic change from the traditional School Leaving Exams to exams from the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC), the Government of the Virgin Islands has promised to cover the cost for every written CXC exams over the next two years.

The Minister for Education and Culture, Hon. Myron V. Walwyn in a released speech, stated “To ensure that all students receive a fair chance at writing the CXC’s CSEC [Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate] examinations, the Ministry of Education and Culture will cover the costs for examinations over the next two years.”

“This I hope demonstrates the importance of our students taking these exams and the investment I believe is necessary to ensure the success of our students and the success of these Virgin Islands.”

Hon. Walwyn took into consideration that there are fourth form students writing the exams and if they are capable, then those who are in fifth form, who are more advanced, should be successful.

“The Ministry of Education and Culture realizes that change is never instant; we realize that there may be setbacks or resistance to such an endeavour, however, we are committed and will stand fast to ensure that our students are given the same opportunities for educational success as their counterparts throughout the region”.

You are so stupid you don't realize that one of the biggest problems in the bvi today is that a lot of expats are light years ahead of locals when it comes to education and the minister is trying to change that. people complain about not getting jobs but ignore the fact that the better jobs and careers have expectations and requirements. we can no longer sit back and depend on our nationality to get by, we need to pull our socks up and take education seriously which is what the minister is trying to do. CXC is not perfect in itself but its a damn good way to start improving our standards and we can now be measured accurately against the rest of the entire Region.
