SOPHIE BAY, Tortola, VI- An electrical pole was cut in half when an SUV slammed into it at Sophie Bay, Tortola today, August 8, 2019.

The pole, with live wires, also reportedly struck another vehicle, damaging its window screen.

The incident took place sometime around 12:00pm.

It is unclear how the SUV ended up hitting the pole at the side of the road.

No reports of injuries have reached our newsroom; however, ambulance and the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue have been summoned to the scene.

Traffic has been backed up as a result of the road being made impassable.

More details to follow.

The road through Sophie Bay and the steep hill further east is an accident prone area. A few weeks ago a lumber truck lost its entire load while heading up that hill and the scattered lumber blocked the road for hours.
