UPDATE: Town Hall’s Cruzian win a proud moment – Alex V. Lake
In an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online, owner of Town Hall, Alex V. Lake of Family Affair Stables told Virgin Islands News Online after the race that it felt excellent to have won the feature race of the event.
He confessed that although the race was a tight one, his jockey followed his instructions to the letter and stayed close to the leader, Edge Ahead, for most of the race.
“I’m very happy for the win. I’m very proud of my horse. He did what he needed to do and came home victorious,” Lake expressed.
This win marks the horse’s third successive victory and Lake said he may next run Town Hall in the Easter Races at Ellis Thomas Downs before taking him across to the Governor’s Cup in St Thomas but is still considering his options.
Meanwhile, General Manager at TraxCo VI Inc, Cherise Williams, revealed that it was a great day, especially considering the many activities that were taking place across the island over the weekend. “There was plenty to do on the island and we were very pleased with the turnout,” Williams said.
Speaking on the issue of an injury scare that befell the races, Williams explained that jockey Myris Rivera of Puerto Rico, who fell during her race had fortunately only suffered some soreness and has since recovered well.
Williams said the feature Flamboyant Stakes race was an exciting one and she expressed happiness that a representative from Tortola was able to come over to the island. She added that the guests were well hosted and ultimately won.
The General Manager also congratulated all the winners and expressed gratitude to the many persons that came to the races and made it a successful day. She was particularly pleased with the seven horses that participated from St Thomas.
Other race winners included, El Idultado, Peacephilly, Win All, Kid from Comerio, Nick, Blast of Macho, Simon Sez, Slevin, Stephen Got Better and Gold Demarshe. Race Three ended as a no contest following Rivera’s fall.

Lake confident ahead of Sunday's St Croix horse races
ST CROIX, USVI – Horse owner Alex V. Lake expressed that he is extremely confident ahead of horse races to be held at the Randall 'Doc' James racetrack in St Croix this Sunday, February 16, 2014.“I am extremely confident, right now my horse is training, he’s happy, fit, he’s taking the running surface very well so I really appreciate that,” Lake said.
Lake’s racehorse, Town Hall, enters the Flamboyant Stakes, the 12th race of the day to compete for a $20,000 purse against Big D, Edge Ahead, Uptown Anthem and Break Up the Game.
Lake conveyed that getting the horse acclimatised and acquainted with the surface were important elements in its preparation as the St Croix track is somewhat different to the one in Tortola.
The horse, running out of Family Affair stables, currently has a winning streak that extends to the Boxing Day races at Ellis Thomas Downs in Sea Cows Bay last December. Town Hall also won the feature race of the VI Classic held last month at Ellis Thomas Downs.
The horse owner expressed pride in being the sole representative of the Virgin Islands in the race and said he expected big things from his horse, Town Hall, once again.
“I am happy and proud to be from the BVI and I would like to represent as best as I can. I think I will come home with a victory this race day that will make me proud that I made the journey,” he added.
He did not depart without laying down a challenge for a much talked about potential matchup between Town Hall and Really Uptown.
“We intend to continue our streak… it will be a race for the Virgin Islands,” he added.
