ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Detectives of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) around 4:15 PM today, Saturday, August 25, 2018, confirmed that 27-year-old Sean Martin, of Johnson’s Ghut, Tortola, has been charged with the August 10, 2018, murder of Jerry Felix-Castro.

Police Commissioner, Michael B. Mathews, speaking exclusively to our news desk said, “Mr Felix-Castro was killed execution style and it was cold and calculated.”

Streets safer-CoP

He added the, “BVI is a safer place tonight, having removed a dangerous killer from the streets…I must give thanks to our small team of local detectives who worked extremely long hours to detect this heinous crime.”

The Commissioner who just returned from vacation noted, “I also wish to place on record my thanks to the local community who have supported this challenging investigation.”

It is unclear if police are looking for others in the murder plot.

Police are currently questioning a young male along with another person as their investigations continue into the murder a few weeks ago of, Jerry Castro-Felix.

Police sources close to the investigation told our newsroom, the man was held on an unrelated matter but is expected to be released.

While we have name, photo and place of work of the young local, he has not been charged with anything and may not be charged either.

A young man killed

Mr Castro-Felix who lived next to the Delta Petroleum Service Station, Pasea Estate, was shot dead with a single bullet to the back of his head around 8:00 PM, on Friday August 10, 2018.

He died immediately, according to medical sources.

Residents and family members describe the young man as quiet and friendly.

There has been public outrage over the many murders over the last eight years in the Virgin Islands, and the lack of a crime fighting strategy from the Dr Smith led Administration via the National Security Council.

When terrible things like this happen we would love to see our police force canvassing the area and pressuring the gangs in that specific area every day, taking in people for questioning, having arm police presence there day and night keeping them uncomfortable and eventually someone will come forward and say something that can help solve the case

It needs police to come in and also rotate them like every 6months or so, police with no connection to the bvi. Why cant the OT'S coperate with law enforcement in full. This is the only thing that will subdue the crime rate here. The police here are afraid because they know the criminals and vice versa plus some are corrupt. Why not rotate caribbean and U.K police too? We need police here with no connection to the bvi

This is silly. If you don't have anything on anyone shut your mouth and do your work. The real killer is laughing. Don't give out these kind of information until you have evidential facts. Police behaving like amateurs.

@The Real Judge. How do you feel now. If you do not understand police work, ask a question or otherwise shut to hell up. When a crime is committed the police are at liberty to question anyone whether suspected or not from whom they believe information can be obtained. Questioning someone does not mean that that person will be charged. Persons can be questioned and then released without charge.

Hmm, this would not be the first time that we're hearing about people being questioned after a murder. The sad thing is that we live on such a small island and we are still plagued with MANY unsolved murders. And the age of the victims make no difference to those who hold crucial information and clues on such murders....the West end shooting is a perfect example. But justice will be served one day.....until that day, the blood of the innocent victims that soaked this Earth will continue to cry out for justice

It really pains my heart that when such crimes occurred everyone is mute, no one ever sees anything but as soon as the police arrest someone in suspicion people are bold enough to blogged, “oh they pick up the wrong man, it’s not him, they have the wrong person” they know all that but yet cannot come forward and give a clue as to who the right person is.

Sweet heart, personality trait has nothing to do with the propensity to commit murder. I once know someone who murdered another person and he was the most quiet soul you could find. Really sweet guy. Even when he admitted it, I still could not believe that he was capable of such a thing. Well, he surely was guilty. He did the crime and the time.

U all folks that are saying “ not him, they have the wrong guy” need to shut up and stop putting your hands in the fire for these criminals. Today we cannot put our hands in the fire for our own children because we do not know what they’re into and what they’re doing. He has an opportunity to prove his Innocence in Court.
Let’s re-track the incident at East End the other day.
The guy whose leg was badly damaged was working for the Civil Court. If he wasn’t caught in the act, u all would have said the same thing about him, “they have the wrong guy.”
People wake up and stop being a fooled by the innocent faces and the work they do and allow Justice to be served and get these criminal off the street so the country can go back to how it used to be.
Too much wicked people in Tortola, young and old.

So says the newly appointed COP. OK. Kudos to you and your team. Question? Are we any safer? Are the streets safer? I would argue NO they are not. Until Martin is found GUILTY, the BVI has about 49 unsolved murders since 1990. The politician doesn't talk about them. The Clergy doesn't talk about them. The influential business people doesn't talk about them. The so-called prominent in this society doesn't talk about them, but all speak in hushed tones in their comfort zones and point fingers while making no attempt to address this vicious cycle of violence. Seize the time.

Alot of Innocent people will fall. This sounds rather political. They pump $1Million + into improve infrastructures. They recruited a lot of police officers (of which don’t know the laws of the BVI).

No crimes getting solved clearly shows that people aren’t doing their job within the force. Someone is getting pressured at the top which cause a chain reaction to the arrest of an innocent man.

Never the less! The Government wasting tax payers dollars so I guess the Police Force can too. They won’t stop until somebody put a law suit on thier Uneducated a$$.

Thank you very much WOWW. Y’all ignorant bad an the realest seems to be very bitter but we can understand, bitterness always comes when reality struck close home. They either close relations or friends. But let’s face it, the alleged murder is quite, he is good, he is innocent, he don’t trouble anyone, then what is he going with so much drugs at his home? Please understand, drugs and guns, go hand in hand and drug peddlers never like to be cheated out of their drugs, it’s a life or death situation. Something to ponder on!

50 people keyed him, then it is him. As much as you all are trying to discredit the police, they would not have held and charge him if they did not have evidence on him. Hell, if the police charge me with a crime and I know I had nothing to do with nothing, I would make sure I fight for my freedom. So far dude is mum.

This sh*t is funny I got to laugh! When tmr comes and they let Sean go because they are not sure it is him n they did not find any gun at his residence neither was there gun powder on his clothes please y'all please make sure y'all can apologize to him the same way y'all was quick to bash him!

The Police does not lay charges unless there is strong evidence. Let's wait for the court appearance tomorrow. He may well be innocent in the end but there must be a reason for the Police to not only question him but to lay charges.
