ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Having insurance resulted in many persons breathing a sigh of relief following the destruction of Hurricane Irma on September 6, 2017; however, for many that relief has switched to frustration after visiting their various insurance providers.

Many policy holders have been venting their frustration on social media, with many complaining that they continue to suddenly be told they are under-insured or don’t qualify for certain insurance.

This matter was addressed briefly on Honestly Speaking on ZBVI 780 AM on Tuesday November 7, 2017 by host of the show, Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline, who urged persons having difficulties with insurance providers and banks to record all their experiences.

“We continue to be concerned about what is taking place with our people as it relates to the insurance companies and the banks. I want to encourage citizens to keep a catalogue or chronology of how many times you are in the insurance office, who you are meeting with, what transpired…” Mr Skelton-Cline stated.

Great injustice

The former General Manager of the BVI Ports Authority added that there is “a great injustice being done from where I sit,” and encouraged persons not to take their challenges for granted or to “bend or buckle under the stress…”

“I think that there is a great injustice and disservice that is being done, and the frustration that so many people are communicating to me as I pedestrian the streets around here, we don’t want you to lose track of the frustration that you are having because in the aftermath of this we very well may need to do something….including class action lawsuit…because it is so disheartening to see how we are being taken advantage of in so many ways with our policies and now the interpretation of those policies, how it is conducive for insurance companies now to heighten your cost on your homes in terms of your appraisal and then to have you then reduced to 50% in terms of the value.”

Mr Skelton-Cline promised his listeners they would be hearing more from him on that matter and “what we might be able to do together.”

Some insurance companies had publicly stated following Hurricane Irma that their customers had nothing to fear as they were capable of handling the many claims.

He is correct. The green flag is flying over this territory. It will soon stop flying too much injustice and crookedness. I'm asking the question is it that we turned a blind eye on this matter. They way they are going with a heavy hammer soon from now many of our citizens will end up in hospital, mental ward, or in their grave to much pressure. When you ask question can't get an answer but they chop up your money like mince meat. They blaming adjusters and adjusters blaming the insurace. So no one to answer. the managers dodging clients with shame in their eyes. They were not dodging when they were collecting poor people money it was all smiles. I'm speaking from experience not hear say.

It is true, Skelton-Cline. Some of the insurance companies are stressing out the people. Can you imagine how low the insurance companies getting, wanting to tell persons that lights on your porch are not insured and any improvements you did outdoors or the beautiful landscape is not insured. I thought lights are considered as fixtures and part of the house. They encourage persons to put in landscape to enhance the value of the property and now they saying those things are not insured. Them out of place, just trying to thief the people them and them pocketing what is rightfully for the homeowner. The Banking and Insurance regulators need to look into some of these things. The insurance companies making up do's and don'ts as they go along. They better take care of the people or we got to run them out of here. One, two, three, Bad Insurance Companies not getting away Scott free. Three Four, don't put your foot back in the BVI's Door.

Oh and the increase in premium. In some cases by over $1000. Whether a claim was made or not. When asked why so high, the response, "all the insurance companies have their raised premiums."

where is the legislation that regulates these companies: without laws these insurance copies to take the people of the territory for a ride with good leadership some business would have to be more accountable NOT even the government is accountable much less: it's only the poor man that feels in there own country.....load of persons might loose their minds up in here

A director of an Insurance company was on the radio station bragging about the ton of money that he will have in the bank when the dust settled. My message to him is, he can go to hell in a hand basket with his ton of money, we don't care. What your customers want is fairness. But to think of it, FAIRNESS is not associated with him an his company. So go to hell...

Don't mind that noise on the media he did not tell you he is taking out 2% for Irma and a 2% for maria. That is hidden and he didn't say after sign settlement he still take out reinstatement fee. He didn't tell you how the calculations are done for the underinsured amount and how much he takung out. Sir simple you need to educate the public and your clients properly. There are too many questions.

While you can control prices why is it you couldent control a 1200watts generator no brand for 500.00 at your company verses the same generator at another company who had more wattage for 300.00 tell the public. You need to stop is it only CTL in business you need to stop. The small businesses need to survive also. You crept before you walk with the help of the people of this territory. Please allow them to creep and walk to. Things and time have changed so please stop going on media speaking if you don't want people to speak negative about your companies. I walked into some other insurances and the tension is not so great like at your company so do the right thing educate the public and customers everyone is not brilliant meet them at their level like when they joined the company. The fact that persons went on media says something.

CTL gets perks for the current group: how much being distributed to house part of the school: remember should have been a public library: 1+1 still equals 2: but happy to see the local being developed
