ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - On January 5, 2013, the first Rotary Club chartered in the British Virgin Islands will celebrate its 45th Anniversary with an intimate function at Maria’s by the Sea for club members and family kicking of what will be a transcendent year for Rotary in the BVI.

The event will begin with a look back at the chartering of the Rotary Club of Tortola and its twenty (20) Founding members, then will move onto to the impact the club has had on the community here in the BVI, those that it has helped in our Rotary District #7020, comprised of 10 countries, and finally its International work though The Rotary Foundation.

“Our 45th Anniversary is indeed a banner year for the club and Rotary in the BVI. The Rotary family is bigger and stronger than ever with three Rotary Clubs, a Rotaract Club, an Interact Club and two Early-act Clubs. The BVI also has its very first District Governor and will be hosting its very first District Conference in May 2013. This is all possible because of the vision of our 20 founders more than 45 years ago.” Sam Welch, President, Rotary Club of Tortola, 2012-2013.

The Rotary Club of Tortola has a full schedule of community projects and programs planned as usual such as the Kids And the Seas (KATS) program, Youth Empowerment Project (YEP), The Roger Downing Mangrove Boardwalk, and continued partnerships with other charitable organizations such as the BVI Diabetes Association. The Rotary Club of Tortola has worked extensively with clubs and communities in Haiti. The Rotary Club of Tortola is also at the forefront of environmental activism in the BVI by working with others on the planning and implementation of a viable recycling program for the territory.
