ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- It was a sad period in the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon, June 12, 2017 as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Kim Hollis QC read the allegations, detailing that murder accused Lennox F. Da Silva aka Ocho, during investigation, told police he stabbed his wife of three years, Sherika Nelson-Da Silva, and held on to her hair while behind her and slit her throat.

The offence of murder is an indictable one and the accused, who was unrepresented at the time but told the court Attorney At Law Patrick Thompson will be defending him, was not required to plea.

Giving further details, the DPP alleged that Da Silva said he had followed his wife around on June 10, 2017 and when he got home he found her packing her belongings and stated that she was leaving him. An argument ensued and, according to his testimony to police, his wife said in the heat of the argument "I don't know why deh didn't kill you and done."

The accused said at that stage he claimed “a feelings” came over him and he slit her throat. He couldn't recall how he got the knife.

Mr Da Silva was shot multiple times in an attempted robbery in Jamaica back in 2014.

Neighbours prevented accused from leaving murder scene

The court heard that police were alerted to a domestic violence incident but when they got to the scene they found the accused at his door as neighbours had stopped him from leaving.

29 year old Mrs Sherika Nelson-DaSilva was found lying on the ground with her throat slit.

Two children, an 11 year old boy and a 4 year old girl, were said to have been in the home at the time of the incident but were not there when police arrived.

A remorseful DaSilva, as he was about to leave the box, stopped to apologise to Senior Magistrate Tamia N. Richards for disappointing her and everyone else who knew him. "I ask you all to pray for me because some things in life happen that we don't want to happen," Mr Da Silva remarked.

The man is said to have been living in the territory for more than 30 years. It was also stated that there was no prior report of domestic violence reported to the police by either the victim or the defendant.

Tha accused was remanded until July 12, 2017.

The crimes came here with you. People used to throw down and exchange a few fists. Before too many of you came here a murder was no more than say, every ten years. That is why you stay here, because you know its safe. Why keep trying to put down your hosts? The only thing some of you seem to need Tollans for is what you can get from them.

That's exactly why y'all need to go back where you come from, nobody don't come round y'all strongly built empire trying to destroy it. Listen to the sh// you talk after we share our land and food with y'all. Of-course we're not going to have any where to run when you people come and destroy what is ours, at least we stay in our lane and hold our own. Yes of-course like any other country crime is heavy in its wake, but you're down right disrespectful ...hmm... but then again y'all here because the same place you so say you have to run back to is the reason you cant even put a piece of bread to your jaw. No worries though, we just got a thing for feeding the hungry. You're more than welcome to live off us. :)

@ Planet VI. Shut your a$$. So called island people aren't gonna stop coming here so they can feed their dam family. Is ambitious we ambitious why we go out to look it anywhere we can find it without having to commit crimes to get it, so what if we come here to feed ourselves and our family? You all acting like us coming here didn't help to build your beautiful BVI? Didn't development of the island continue with us coming here? You all acting like British Virgin Islanders allowing us to just come here and leave without trying to drain us with hefty rent, work permit fees and all kinda added nonsense that they expect us to pay for. Some of us only survive on this because we are ambitious and intent on achieving something while we here. Some of you just get people ass up sometimes talking crap about down island people and how people leave their country to come to your "paradise" and the worst thing is that many so called British Virgin Islanders were not even born on the island because like us your parents went to the USA or its territories and gave birth to you for the opportunities that you might not be able to get here. Quit talking crap about people who come here from other islands man.
Look at the serious issue at hand and all you can talk is this crap about who from here and who aint and who must or should go back where they come from.

I found his 'exemption from work permit' papers instead. He didn't even have to go by Labour. Help us, Lord. Well after we have fed him for 25 years if the world lasts, we can send him out of here. The Government though needs to have a link with the Jamaican Immigration and now St. Vincent and St. Kitts to ensure some of these people don't have records and migrating to our country to create havoc. Santo Domingo as well. I am convinced we have hardened criminals migrating here and all while our police force fast asleep. Pray people. Pray. God can help us.

But it can work in my opinion though Dash, it starts from the person in the mirror and it depends heavily on the people involved, the stuff that they were exposed to and how they used their experiences to bring change to their commitment of marriage, community and relationships. The question is, does he want to change and if the answer is yes, then he has to make a very special effort and start confronting those issues that he faces. Change some of his friends and try to associate himself with persons that will build him up. It is unfortunate what he did but this is a very good place to start dealing with or confronting his internal issues cause clearly there are some. I pray that you put God in your life Mr. Da Silva and ask him to turn it around - do it because it works! He pulled me out of this Festival jump up thing being drunk like a fish for August, but I prayed and I prayed many times people see me out there, they didn't know that inside, I was just asking God to get me out - I had enough and wanted change. That feeling is more than you, is a spirit that is trying to consume you. God has good intentions for you my boie so I beg you to go into deep prayer and meditation, not with words, true prayer is not done with words. Allow yourself (your mind and your thought process) to be consumed by the presence of God. Go in deep thought with him not uttering a word and one day you will be able to let others know how he helped you, which will intern help them. All the best is wished to you but you know you will be punished so just accept it and move forward my brother, PEACE!

When Ocho introduced me to this young lady back in 2015, I saw the love in his eyes and heard the pride in his voice. I saw and heard how proud he was of her, and how in love with. He couldn't stop looking at, and talking about her. I've known this man for thirty (30) solid years, and have known him to be nothing but mild-mannered, sweet, genuinely nice and respectful. When he was shot-up in Jamaica and I heard about it, my heart fell. I was so afraid that he was dead.
I could never describe how happy I was when he returned to Tortola safe and sound, even though scarred. This is a hard one. I feel so sorry for the young lady losing her life in such a tragic manner, and for him now losing his freedom amongst other things. Sometimes you just wish that you had the power to turn the clock back...

You really are so callous as to say that a woman who was brutally murdered, in front of children(!!), simply represents a "lesson to all you women"?? What utter nonsense. Here you are justifying murder and essentially making excuses for taking someone's life. At least you are inclusive and suggest that your "lesson" applies to all women.

If you're played, leave. If you want to play, leave. No one deserves to die.

The saddest and most tragic "lesson" in all of this is for the children who witnessed it -- I can only hope and pray they will get the help and support they need to overcome this brutality and the fact that they have lost a mother and a father.

Anger management is much needed also...i pray that the children will be well taken care of. I also pray that they will get the necessary counseling from the Trauma Team. Witnessing this horror will have long-lasting effects but God is able to bring healing...

I don't think it's that ppl are defending him. I think ppl have opened up their minds to all the possibilities in the matter. Yes he is a "killer" but he's also human... and it seems that he was hurting all along and he is remorseful.

It is very sad a life lost and children left without their mother. Ladies I beg you all please stop playing games with some of these men. sometimes these me may genuinely care for the you all but when you all do nonsense like this it can lead to nothing good. I am a woman and I stand on my own two feet. I hope the kids get counseling because this is going to be with them the rest of their lives.

This island people talk is old and stupid. They leave lot of all you tolians and others will lose house land job family etc. Stupid talk. We are always trying to protect our locals when they cause bullshit in their own lives. Lazy set of people. Especailly the one between 15 and 30. The men are ridiculious. BTW i from the BVI and proud just disappointed in the ignorance and laziness in my people. Ocho is a good man that snapped may good be with him through this time and protect the children from harms way.

As far as it appears, both of them were cruel. If there are any truth to the stories being told, the murdered was no better than the murderer. They murdered each other.
