Leroy & Fahie crowned National Time Trial & Road Race Champs

WEST END, Tortola, VI- Veteran cyclist Philippe Leroy and Olympia Maduro Fahie enjoyed a successful weekend on the roads of Tortola when the BVI Cycling Federation (BVICF) held its National Time Trial and Road Race at the weekend.

Defending champion Leroy emerged victorious in the Men’s Elite National Time Trial held on Saturday June 29, 2019 with a time of 51 minutes over 20 miles, just edging out Rene Gayral of Antigua by 1 second.

Brian Sanderson of Dominica was third in 55:03, Orano Andrews of St Vincent 4th in 55:20 and Zambezi Richardson of Anguilla 5th in a time of 55:26.

Meanwhile, Olympia Maduro Fahie took the title of 2019/2020 Female Elite National Time Trial Champion. Ms Fahie clocked 31:38 minutes over 10 miles.

Road Race

The National Championship Road Race was held on Sunday June 30, 2019.

The title of 2019/2020 Men Elite National Road Race Champion was taken by Mr Leroy, who recorded a time of 2:27:38 over a distance of 55 miles.

Leroy was third overall in the open race, with the Anguillan, Richardson, taking first in 2:25:00 and the Antiguan, Gayrol, second in 2:25:01.

From the start of the race, Richardson and Gayrol broke away from the 8-man pack and managed to maintain their advantage to the finish, with Richardson edging his main challenger by a mere second.

The 2019/2020 Female Elite National Road Race Champion was Ms Fahie who registered a time of 2:29:25 over 33 miles.

Both of the races at the weekend started in front the Benjamin Romney Recreational Park in West End, proceeded to Frenchman's Cay Junction and looped back to the start.
